    The Ides of March

    Gaius Julius Caesar, dictator of Rome, is stabbed to death in the Roman Senate house by 60 conspirators led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus.

    Yeah, interesting. Just how long does it take the wire services to get a story from Europe to us here?

    Once Sunday, March 15, a few years ago, it was my 'job' to annouce visitors in our department and extend them welcome. One woman had brought a neighbor of hers, Mark Anthony. That was about the best setup I ever had for that chore. I said, "We're glad to have Mark Anthony with us here, just in time for the Ides of March."

    A treacherous assasination that we know about mostly from the tragedy of William Shakespeare called "Julius Caesar." Fascinating reading. But did this event change the course of history? I don't think so.
