Marines of any Military Occupational Specialty may volunteer for a three-year tour of duty;[10] however, non-Staff NCOs with dependants are not eligible, as well as Marines with potentially offensive tattoos, legal or security restrictions, non–United States citizenship, dual citizenship, significant financial indiscretions, and any other restriction that would prevent a top secret clearance.[11]

    Link is from Wiki

So married marine may not apply.
Does the USMC have a right to prohibit a married Marine?

When I joined, they told us that "if the Marine Corps wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one."

There's a long history of modern militaries not wanting married new enlistees. I don't blame them, I believe a waiver was required when I joined in the 90's. It was granted for some reservists. This doesn't mean it's wise to refuse an E6 Staff Sergeant with 10 years in. But this is for an only 3 year commitment. Who wants to spend a year training an e1 private and deal with the complications of his dependents just for 2 years of possible service out of them.

I think the Army has had some 3 year enlistments for some time. But, the Marines have not offered one for less than four for decades if I'm not mistaken.

No. I tend to assume the basic necessary information to be in the OP with links being provided for detail, and thus semi-optional. I didn't see from the OP that it was for MSG specifically.

The other options on B- billet are recruiter and drill instructor.
If you want a permanent career in the corps, you invariably need one of the three under your belt. I don't see why it's an issue of interest at all to be honest with you. They have the right to do whatever they want as far as I am concerned. MSG is the least prestigious of the three. It is impractical to house Marine spouses in Zimbabwe or Khazakhstan for an18 month detail. MSG's usually go to two places in their 3-year commitment.

You would have to ask the USMC

About 2 years ago - a young man I knew wanted to join the USMC - but they gave him a hassle about his tattoo. He was required to write an essay about his tattoo - its meaning and ect.
He ended up joining the US Navy!

oh - I forgot to mention - his twin brother - DID join the USMC!

Granted - I could understand - if something was extremely sexist or racist -...
I will see if I can get some info as to what his tattoo actually said!

I was under the impression they stopped that tattoo nonsense…maybe not. Anyway, no need to go thru the trouble.

This was almost 3 years ago.

Looks like there is an updated policy effective 29 Oct 21

The policy also includes Navy personnel who are assigned to USMC units. (ie medics)
