Although it's been my observation that churches that even practice disciplining any of their membership seem to be a dying breed, given the following scriptures (and there are others that probably also apply [also the emphasis in these is mine]):

"And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican," Matthew 18:17

"Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them," Romans 16:17

"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.....
"And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed," 2 Thess 3:6 & 14

How does the spouse of that person who is a member of the church that is disciplining this person fully comply with these verses that command the members of that church to avoid that person?

Is the spouse somehow excused from obeying these commands to avoid that person?

    Comments anyone?

Church discipline can't nullify the marriage covenant, and the husband and wife continue to have obligations toward one another.

Of course the spouse not under discipline should work to bring the other to repent and return to fellowship within the church.

If "They two shall become one flesh," and "What God hath joined, let no man put asunder" are still in the Bible, then that spouse had better "stand by her man" (or his woman).

You can google for ON THE BAN: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. By Menno Simons if you don't find it I can email it or break it up a little and post in sections.

Your vow to that person is just as strong as your vow to God.
Husband love your wives as Christ loved the Church and likewise wives love your husbands. Of course it does not mean for you to forsake you companion in anyway. Who knows maybe through you they might come back. Be good to them and entreat them as a brother or sister in Christ.

A man who will not provide for his family is worse than an infidel and hath already denied the faith. So you have other commitments to your companion other than a brother or sister in church, and those comitments are before God also.

When your spouse is an unbeliever, you are forbidden to abandon him/her. I think this situation is similar.
