Mary Seemed Without Family

Mary - Why did not the Lord's brother's take her? She seemed without family... I would imagine Joseph long ago passed away and the Lord's half brothers may not have been blood kin at all.

25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. - John 19

I think that there is a lot happening here that shows the relationship between Jesus and John.
Other things to consider…

John 20:2
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

John 21:20
Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?


Another biblical example of such a friendship is David and Jonathan. They covenanted to care for each other and their families. It is not foreign even now to find people who are not blood relatives, not adopted, yet living as family members and caring for others. (And I don’t mean inappropriately.)

I see it as one more glimpse into how much Jesus took on flesh and carried the burdens of us all.

Jesus' brothers were not believers yet.
