Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. KJV
Is our Lord here referring to events after his death and resurrection or after his second coming?

with thanks

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
God's law in Mt.5 is simple God's word and shall not be lost over the ages of time but will remain perserved in the current AV

I would say that he is referring to after his death and resurrection in Luke, in Mt. 5 it just seems to be a general statement

Did Jesus fulfill the Law? If so, then heaven and earth have passed.

C.H. Spurgeon

"Did you ever regret the absence of the burnt-offering, or the red heifer, of any one of the sacrifices and rites of the Jews? Did you ever pine for the feast of tabernacle, or the dedication? No, because, though these were like the old heavens and earth to the Jewish believers, they have passed away, and we now live under the new heavens and a new earth, so far as the dispensation of divine teaching is concerned. The substance is come, and the shadow has gone: and we do not remember it." (Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, vol. xxxvii, p. 354).
