Maybe several trillion dollars will be pumped into US economy

Financing programs for businesses hit by the coronavirus could amount to $4 trillion, Mnuchin says

What I am curious is, how much of that will the government get back in the future, some of these are zero interest, low interest loans, deferred loans, etc... Individual persons will get checks which I think should be taxed as income. It is a lot of money, but it is not wasted money. Theoretically it is all of us, our money being citizens of this country. Trump says they are going to go big.

This is insane! They will be printing all that money up since no one is lending to us anymore and the value of our money is being lessoned with stuff like this. Trump has now become a fool and not even the Republicans have any sense of fiscal sanity any longer.

In the future people will say: "They had to destroy the nation in order to save it".

So hopefully when all the bloodletting is over, the provisional government will hold to account all the people involved in the destruction of the nation and impose the severest penalty on them.

They will get nothing back, it will be all the money right down the drain!

It is a lot of money, but it is not wasted money

It will be printed money that has no backing and thus no real value. We will be going to a bad place with this kind of thing.

Trump says they are going to go big.

He will go down in history as the biggest spending President we have ever had. He is making Obama look like a tightwad!

We will definitely suffer in the future because we will have to print the 2 trillion dollars. A trillion dollars is a stack of one thousand dollar bills 63 miles high. It will mean high inflation in the future. But, if your house is on fire, and no water hydrant near by, then you pump the swimming pool to put the fire out. It is common sense. Roosevelt had to make tough decisions in ww2 and was criticized for decades, but he was trying to keep people from starving. Trump will have to make similar decisions that he will be hated for

FDR made things worse.
My father and mother would disagree. They almost starved to death during the depression. My father saw grown men walking down dirt roads barefooted, begging for a handful of food to feed their children. Men would beg to work all day free for just enough food to feed their children. My parents had just got married when the depression hit. They had one plate and two forks. They moved into an old abandoned school house.
They ate one at a time, washed the plate, and then the other one ate.
I hate socialism. Roosevelt had socialist tenants. No doubt. Citizens vote themselves into socialism, but they shoot their way out. I am a Vietnam veteran. I have seen socialism and lived under it in several countries. It thrives on sweet promises that are actually sweet lies. It took America 10 years to come out of the depression, even with the NEW DEAL which was really a raw deal. It took 10 years, even with the high production period of WW2. You were not there. You were not starving. You did not watch your children beg for food. I am 72 years old. I have talked to hundreds of people in the past who survived the depression. Being hungry is one thing. Watching your children go hungry is another. Sometimes tough situations require tough decisions, that, no matter what the options are, the result is bad. That was Roosevelt's situation. It may be Trumps. Pray that it is not.

Please, I am older than you am I am from small town rural Indiana & we think FDR made things worse.

And Trump just might throw us into a worse depression if he lets this shutdown go on much longer than the first of the month

Since most people will recover from this and be immune, and no longer shedding the virus, every single recovered person should be allowed to go back to work. The recovery period for normal healthy people is 10 to 14 days with no treatment, maybe 6 days with the chloroquine and azithromycin. I am not negative about anything here, and the recession will last a couple quarters, then the virus will be gone. There will be an economic recovery. After the 1918 Spanish Flu, with a huge DOW drop and many hundreds of thousands many dead came 10 years of the roaring 20's. Huge government debts means the governments can not afford higher interest rates, expect the new normal is interest rates very low for a very long time. That great depression ended with WW2 mostly because of huge government spending putting everyone back to work. There are many reasons for the great depression mostly involved FED bank mistakes and government policies, which they learned from and are not doing anymore.

The Fed sucks. Trump should let people go back to work the first of the month or no later than Easter. The government is totally bankrupt and has been since World War II. What good is $1250 going to do you if you don't have a job?

If you recovered from this that means your immune system has created immunity to this virus and you cant spread it. This is what they keep talking about 'herd immunity'. Some few people with a serious illness take 3 to 6 weeks to recover. Some people get lung scarring and may be on oxygen forever.

You cant keep healthy people cooped up for no reason. It may be impractical but isolating the elderly would have been a better idea than locking down everybody since 80% will have little symptoms and few will actually die even doing nothing.

You may be right. In the long run any type of socialism seems to be worse than what we get in the short run. The USA takes in 4.25 trillion dollars each year from revenue. We borrow 1 trillion each year . We spend 1 trillion on welfare. That probably does not include Medicare, Medicaid, free drugs etc. The interest on our 23 trillion dollar debt will, in a few years exceed the principal. Economists tell us when the interest exceeds the principal? We will officially be bankrupt (Bankruptcy of a Nation by Jerry Robinson). While our country is now bleeding and unemployment is mounting, socialist Peloshi is trying to slip in an abortion bill to hold up the economic aid bill. Anything Trump does is going to be bad. BUT IT WILL be a wise decision than Hillary would have made. Trump is trying to save the small businesses to insure future jobs. The dem-o-rats are trying to hand out money to the poor. That will be money down the drain
as cruel as it sounds. Tje very poor will take that money straight to the cigarette and liquor store. Looks like our country will eventually go bankrupt anyhow. Trump will just kick the can on down the road
If Trump does nothing.l, then in November he loses. Socialist Demorats will spend 50 trillion dollars to the lower class, who will come out in droves to keep them on office. A dire situation indeed. Practically every economist in the USA is backing g some sort of aid package. We get the package from a trump, a pure capitalist, or socialist dem o rats who are pure socialist. You are right. We lose

A guy was campaigning for office in San Francisco when Pelosi came along. He introduced himself as a conservative candidate and asked her to vote for him, to which she replied that she wouldn't vote for a conservative like him if he were St. Peter. And the candidate told Pelosi, if I were St. Peter, you wouldn't be in my district.

I just got off the phone with my financial advisor. I trust this man much more than many of these unknown economists running their mouths on CNN. He said that throughout history, in any crisis, the American people have never switched horses in the middle of the stream. He says, from what he has heard, Trump is doing it right. He also told me that if America elects another president in November, it could be even more disastrous. The reason is that the present leaders have a plan that could be interrupted and another plan put in place that takes longer to implement. He reminded me that this crises is unprecedented. No one can predict the outcome. We go into this crises with the best economy in 50 years. Trump has surrounded himself with mostly businessmen, not politicians. By electing Trump, it may be wrong, but it was all we could do
Now we pray.
I believe that is sound advise.

And this is the reason that FDR was elected a 3rd and 4th term -it was considered a bad ideal to change leaders in the time of war.

Actually, I would consider the Depression and the early states of WW II to be a time of crises for the USA - yet, by working together, working hard - we did obtain victory!

That is exactly correct. If they did it in the past, we can do it!
