It's been in the news for a day or so now. I have read several stories on his arrest.

He is afterall human, and a Catholic.

What I don't understand is why he was driving such a mild automobile.

There's no problem with him drinking but, based on the news story, he shouldn't have been driving if he drank that much.

I believe it's better stated, "he took communion to the point of intoxication." or as the Brotha's would say in the hood, "he was communioned out!"

Was this satirical humor, or does a man of the cloth really need that explained?

Nothing satirical about it. What is Mel Gibson supposed to be a witness for?

He is, by all accounts of his testimony and lifestyle, an unbeliever. He gives no evidence to the contrary. What is he supposed to be a witness for?

I have yet to see an 'account' that he is an unbeliever - please support.

I thought he confessed to being a firm believer when he made that movie I could never understand sense I'm a slow reader with ADD.

First, we know that everyone is born into sin and therefor is unbeliever. Until such a time as they trust Christ alone for salvation, they remain that way. As such, the presumption is that Gibson is an unbeliever.

Second, he is an old Latin Rite Catholic, and they are more devoted to Trent than the modern catholics. No one who understands and believes Catholic doctrine is a believer, by definition. Some Catholics may be truly saved, but if so, it is because they believe something other than their church teaches.

Third, one need only look at his movies to see that his lifestyle doesn't match up to the life we should expect from a believer, based on Christian. Gibson makes movies about things God forbids us to even talk about, much less practice. Making a mediocre movie about Christ's death hardly qualifies one to be a Christian.

You presume that a man is not saved, because of the theology that you presume he believes. I would prefer to read a quotation that he does not believe in Jesus as His Lord and Savior.

    Oh well.

    Guero,

Do you think a person's theology has any effect on their salvation? What if I told you I was a Mormon and believed in Jesus, and am therefore a Christian? Would you accept that testimony or would you appeal to my flawed understanding of the Bible and Jesus as evidence that I was not a Christian?

I suggest that we leave the salvation of Mr. Gibson, and other folks, in God's hands.

Our opinions about who is or isn't saved don't matter.

We are to spread the Word of God. Let's leave the judging to God.
