Melania Trump's office is firing back at the social media snickering that broke out Tuesday over the first lady's choice of footwear for her visit to Texas, calling the attention to her outfit "sad."

While residents in Houston and beyond are grappling with catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey, media outlets and celebrity comedians spent Tuesday morning mocking the first lady over the high heels she was seen wearing while leaving Washington with President Trump.

“It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes,” the first lady’s Communications Director Stephanie Grisham told Fox News via email.

I could care less what kind of shoes she wears. Let her wear what she wants.

I do think fashion can go too far. The summer I worked in the Baptist seminary in Moscow, Russia I was surprised to see women walking to the subway, about a mile from the seminary, wearing spike heels as they walked and their ankles were bleeding. That, to me, is carrying fashion too far.

As an aside, who can tell me at what Civil War battle resulted in a meadow being called the 'field of lost shoes.

There was a conservative editorialist, I can't remember the name and won't waste the time to look it up, who said that she would not meet Trump's criteria for immigrating to the USA ... but an exception might be made because she is white and beautiful.

In the case of the stiletto heels, that just seems like some catty nitpicking but all of this daily criticism will backfire on the Democrats as just unnecessary pettiness by a party of rich elites who live in the elite areas of the East Coast and the elite areas of the West Coast and could care less about anyone except themselves because the Democrats are out of touch.

I agree that she will try to run again. There really is no one else. I think that it was Chicago that turned in more votes than it had registered voters. Here in Indianapolis, the Democrats admitted that they registered little ole ladies in several precincts and rode them around and voted them several times. The upper class likes to register wherever they own a house so a lot of people vote in several different states. As you know, the map of counties shows the Democrats winning the large urban areas and nothing else.
