Men's Bible Study Resources For Men....Suggestions?

AVL1984

I used to attend a small group Men's Bible Study group through the AFCC (American Fellowship of Cowboy Churches) at the Cowpuncher's Cowboy Church of Shelbyville, TN. Because of members acquiring COVID, and because of several other challenges hitting us, we disbanded for a short time. Some of us would like to gather again for Bible study, and I would be the one leading this effort. I'm searching for some input on good Bible Study resources for small groups of men. Any suggestions? It would have to be able to be done in both the KJV and the NLT versions, as the Cowboy church here uses the NLT for the largest part of their outreach. Any resource materials recommended would be appreciated.

Most Cowboy Churches are Assemblies of God, or used to be anyway. If A.G. affiliated, they have a lot of resources. Or if not, you can find what you want on Right Now Media.

I agree w above about studying a book of the Bible esp a book like Ephesians or the lives of Abraham, Moses and David (ordinary Men called by God)

what about a book pertinent like JC Ryle Thoughts for Young Men? And read passages from Gods Word?

I never understood the Cowboy Church thing

prob never will

it soooo trivializes the Gospel
The cowboy church closest to my town is for families who can't go to church on Sundays because the parents work the rodeo circuits all weekend
They meet during the week at night with a local pastor at a local church. I hear good things about it. I know one man saved there.

Cowboy church is a way that the Gospel is compromised ie, the Gospel is not good enough (we have to do a gimmick to get them to attend.

this is exactly how the Seeker sensitive Churches are started and thrive

Paul did not pull up on a horse in Ephesus and say Let’s start a Cowboy church

Again...NOT what this thread is about. Stay on subject, please! Otherwise, start your own thread.

You can use the 1689 Confession of faith as a good primer.Look up all the verses. It is free online.
Know Your Christian Life...by Sinclair Ferguson covers major teachings vital
To the Christian life.
The Measure of a Man...by Getz.
Attributes of God by A.W.Pink

Now, that's a great suggestion! :) Thanks

While there is a little Calvinistic bias, basically Warren W. Wiersby's "BE" series is excellent. For example, his "Be Ready" study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians tends to open the eyes of complacency.

What gimmick? It's men and women and families who WANT to be in church but who cannot on Sundays because of their work on the weekends. No one is trying to "get them to attend". They want to attend church.

I don't understand the calling this Tuesday night church a "gimmick".

You do realize that there are several denominations of Cowboy Church. There are also independents. Within the denominations, there is variance.
I don't see anything wrong with a rope trick. IMO it's better than @Salty advocating for Super Bowl watch parties at church.

You make it sound like they do this every service, TYPICAL OUTSIDE LOAD OF HOGWASH. Until you know that of which you speak, which you admit you don't know much about, then please don't comment. As I've stated already 2x at the least here, that's NOT what this thread is about. Either staying on topic or starting your own thread is my suggestion.

Now I am not a man, but I recently discussed this as something that was needed, because there are individual things that men need to discuss with other men.

There were so many arguments about prophecy and customs, nobody was talking about having the heart of Jesus, or studying and having his character, or dealing with other common issues men have to deal with in daily life.

1 Timothy 2 was dismissed.

So I had this list saved and on hand. Maybe it will help.
