Methodists split on SCOTUS ruling on Texas sodomy law

No shocker here.

 

Certainly morality and our Christian beliefs would be against this kind of activity. But it's impossible to enforce sexual constraints between consenting adults in the privacy of their home. To do so would require the kind of commando forced entry that happened to Efran Gonzalez. Do we really want that kind of country? Probably a high percentage of these police intrusions would be against innocent people. Why do I say that since it's easy to spot two men or two women living together?

Well, for one thing you can't selectively enforce the ban on homosectual activity. Does any Christian here disagree that a far greater problem at least in terms of numbers is men or women in a traditional marriage cheating on their spouse? After all, we have a 50% divorce rate and the rate among professing christians is higher than the average. Does anyone deny that fornication is against the law of God?

Secondly, there are so many crazy sex laws on the books that if we start enforcing them if will open Pandora's box.

Here are some examples:

In Idaho, it is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing less than 50lbs.

In Chicago, Illinois, it is legal to protest naked in front of City Hall, as long as you are under 17 years of age and have the proper permits.

Men over the age of 18, in Indiana may be charged with statutory rape if the passenger in his car is not wearing her socks and shoes and is under the age of 17.

In Ottuma, Iowa, a man may not wink at any woman he doesn't know.

In Boston, Massachusetts, two people may not kiss in front of a church.

Logan County, Colorado law states that it is illegal to kiss a woman while she is asleep.

In Hartford, Connecticut, it is illegal for a man to kiss his wife on Sundays.

In New York, women are allowed to go topless as long as it is not being used for business.

In South Carolina, by law if a man promises to marry an unmarried woman, the marriage must take place.

Lebanon, Virginia law says that it is illegal to kick your wife out of bed.

Men who deflower virgins, regardless or age or marital status, may face up to five years in jail in Auburn, Washington.

West Virginia law dictates that a man may have sex with an animal as long as it is under 40 lbs.

Women in St. Croix, Wisconsin are forbidden from wearing anything red in public.

In Clinton, Arkansas, molesting an automobile is illegal.

In Minnesota, it is illegal to sleep naked.

Women in Cleveland, Ohio, are forbidden from wearing patent leather shoes lest men see reflections of their underwear.

In Tennessee, the age of consent is 16 unless the girl is a virgin, the age of consent is lowered to 12.

Virginia law states that it is illegal to have sex with the lights on.

In Florida, it is considered an offense to shower naked & you may not kiss your wife's breasts.

In Iowa, kisses may not last longer than 5 minutes.

Massachusetts law dictates that a woman may not be on top for any sexual activities.

It is illegal for a woman to call a man for a date in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

In Oregon it is illegal to whisper dirty words into your partner's ear during sex.

The law in Schulter, Oklahoma states that women may not gamble in the nude, in lingerie or while wearing a towel.

In Little Rock, Arkansas, flirtation between men and women on the streets may result in a 30 day jail term.

It's against the law for anyone in California to engage in oral sex. The penalty is a 15-year jail term.

Newlyweds of Oblong, Illinois, may not make love on their wedding day while on a hunting or fishing trip.

A man in Alexandria, Minnesota, must not make love to his wife with the smell of garlic, onions or sardines on his breath.


I think we should get all of these crazy laws off the books and focus on protecting people against sexual predators.
