Military Chaplains need your support

Just last week, the Center for Reclaiming America for Christ launched a petition asking President Bush to clarify the right of military chaplains to pray according to their personal faith. Already, 17,714 Center E-Army members have committed to this cause.

No branch of the military guarantees the right of chaplains to pray according to their personal faith.

Hundreds of current chaplains are asking for this clarification.

On-duty chaplains have reported numerous uncomfortable, unclear, and difficult circumstances related to this lack of clarity.

Chaplains must submit their prayers for review prior to praying.

More than 75 Navy chaplains have filed a class-action lawsuit against the military, claiming they have been passed over for promotion because they are evangelicals.

The ACLU has won at least one case which ended all prayer (at the Virginia Military Institute) and is pursuing others.

And these are just some of the facts.

+ + Different Experiences Mean Action IS Needed

Many military chaplains have been blessed to have tension-free on-duty experiences with regard to prayer. Still, stated and written policy has created much confusion for many other chaplains. This is an important matter that needs attention before reports of discrimination, intimidation, and censure are widespread.
