Hi I'm 17 turning 18 in march almost through with Home schooling and I was wondering is there any Mission work to be done for North American Indians? Sorry if this is an incorrect forum for this but I didn't know where to go. I feel called into the Ministry particularly Pastoring and Preaching. If it helps any I am Southern Baptist. One other reason I'm asking is also I know that a lot of Native americans or American Indians may have a disconnect to Christianity because of the History between American Indians and the American government. Any information or help would be great. Thanks and God bless. Smile
P.S. I have posted this on another forum on this board and it was a few words shorter. Thanks again and God bless :)

Great to hear from a future missionary! Yes, there are various works among the Native Americans. Here is the website of Baptist Mid-Missions for that (a General Association of Regular Baptist Churches mission): https://www.bmm.org/ministries/native-american-ministries/

    P. S. We talk about such things here on the BB in the Missions/Witnessing/eVangelism forum.

I remember you mentioning this before and praise God for your faithfulness. Are you still involved in some informal capacity?

I applaud wwjd's enthusiasm at his/her age and wanting to respond to that call. A course that I found helpful for understanding the biblical call for mission and the history of cross cultural missions in general is Perspectives on the world Christian movement that runs 15 week courses all across the u.s. and the world. It is not a Baptist course but I found it to be tremendously biblical, historical and culturally sensitive. It may help you understand the impact of colonialism on the way the gospel was presented which is important in communicating with aboriginals.

I don't have any specific advice regarding American Indians but having to work in health care with aboriginal Australian patients is definitely not easy to cross the cultural divide and provide care. It helps that I am not white and don't speak Australian.
