Questions concerning your church policy for missionary support. For this poll, I'm specifically refering to support for full-time church planters outside of the US.

I am a member of a Southern Baptist church. we give to missions through our Cooperative Program. Unfortunately, they are projecting a shortfall such that there are a number of people who feel called to missionary field who cannot be supported at this time.

IFB churches do a great disservice to our missionaries by supporting a huge number just a small amount. It causes deputation to go on for years, and furloughs are spent running around the nation to 100+ churches to report.

Consider that a missionary needs 40k a year for support and work

If you church took a missionary for $250 a month (instead of $35 or 50 or 100) you would only need a dozen others for full support. Missionary returns from the field, spends 6 months just relaxing, visiting family, R&R, THEN go to spend a week with each church.

Not just a service, but a whole week or more. Let the people see and know their missionaries . . and they will probably sacrifice even more!

    Others?

My in-laws church sends 5000 amonth in support of missionaries. They have about 100 members so that is a pretty good amount. However, they support 15 families. that accounts for just over 300 a month for each family. assuming avg of 40k needed for each fammily. at 3600 or 4000 a year that would require 10 or 11 churches to support each family. perhaps if they supported 5 families it would be easier and they could develop a more intimate relationship with each family they support?
