I read over Romney's interview about abortion. While it may be nice to have a pro-life position it is troubling as to how he came to that conclusion. Abortion is murder and murder is condemned by God in His Word. If Romney was even a good practicing Mormon he should know this much. I am not impressed with him at all. Abortion is wrong because God says so and a believer with the Holy Spirit witness within knows this without controversy.

    God Bless!

Great news for conservatives, especially conservative Christians. I heard on Fox News while ago that Mitt will formally announce his candidacy on January 8, 2007.

The LDS church holds a semi-liberal stance on Abortion. They allow it in the case of rape, incest, helth of the mother and if it is causing considerable mental health stress. And with the consent of the mothers bishop.

And that has what relevance to anything mentioned in this thread?

It is another one of those situations where Romney is better on this issue than any Democrat that will run. However, I agree with the above post, it is vague and not decided upon by conviction of the Holy Spirit. It almost sounds from reading the response at times he is on both sides of the issue. Maybe kind of like to get elected I am pro choice, but in my heart I am pro life.

As far as his candidacy, it would not fly in this state for geography alone. We can find better choices than now in the news media.

What is Romney's position on Iraq? Does he support more troops (like McCain) or is he for a phased pull-out? His position on this will determine if I can vote for him or not. Links would be nice.

It is my understanding, Martin, that after Mitt makes his formal announcement next month that he will be making major speeches on policy. Mitt does give some general answers about Iraq in the National Review interview.

I am going to be very honest here, Romney concerns me.

His position on Iraq, at least in that interview, was...

"Finally, inferring that our troops may be withdrawn from combat positions before Iraq is secure runs counter to my view and to the views I have heard from some of America’s most accomplished military leaders. I am not suggesting that there are simple solutions for Iraq. But it is clear to me that some of these recommendations will not meet our objectives in Iraq, or in the broader long war America is fighting today."

That sounds alot like the Bush/McCain throw more troops in move, a move I have called dangerous. It is time for Americans to start standing down in Iraq and if the Iraqis will not stand up, well too bad for them. We can't carry them along anymore it is time for the Iraqi people to sink or swim and to do that by themselves.

His position on abortion worries me. What I see is another Bush in the making. Promises, promises, promises. Def Leppard has a song called "Promises" and one line goes as follows: "I won't make promises that I can't keep, I won't make promises that I don't mean". That is what we have gotten with Bush. Promises he could not keep and did not mean. From abortion to nation building, he made promises either he never meant to keep or just found out he could not keep. Right now I think Romney will do nothing to end the murder of the unborn, I worry that his position on abortion is political or, at best, shallow. As for Iraq I worry that Romney would continue down the same road as Bush. I am also concerned that he would continue the practice of nation building. In other words I see Romney doing the same thing as Bush...making promises he can't keep and making promises he does not mean.

As of this point I have pretty much gone south on Romney, McCain, and probably Newt as well. Third party...here I come.

I can't blame you for going minor party or independent as I do so quite often myself.

I expect that by January 20, 2009, that we will have drawn down our troop levels in Iraq drastically and any troops still there will be in the Kurdish area.

As a Libertarian, what is it you like so much about Mitt? Religion aside, from what I can see he is another big goverment liberal RINO. I would think you would like Newt, better if you were voting within the 2 partys.

Are you giving up on voting third party canadates? The Libertarians will be running somebody.

Your off topic comment had nothing to do with conservative thought and its lack of anything.

Maybe you were looking for a "Who I am voting for" topic.

Any guy who believes he can't go to Heaven without Joe Smith's approval doesn't need to be president. That's the same Joe Smith who revised the bible to agree with Mormon doctrine. The internet is awash with the lies, deception, heresies, blasphemies, of Joe Smith. Here is just one example:

Romney still follows a false prophet.

Not just that, He seeks that prophets advice and councle on political matters. So if Mitt leads the country then Hinckley leads the country by proxy.

The one thing I have witnessed about Mormans, whether you do business with them or work with them, they will use thier position to further their cause and this is why I cannot see Romney being a viable candidate.

I don't understand why that should be good news for conservative Christians. He may or may not be conservative. But he us definitely not a Christian.
