Does it really matter... the sound. . . the instrument. . .as long as it is used to bring praise to the Master?

notice how my last post (which was very positive) was totally ignored?

The issue of keeping our lives pure and holy is important but tearing each other apart for our views has not been a positive experience on this past thread. :(

Until Next Post, Adam

Sorry, I thought you were refering to the recent thread of posts on Christian Rock/CCM. If you haven't read them yet try to read some of it. It will give you some idea of where people stand here.

Until Next Post, Adam

If it brings glory to God, then it does not matter. What you must decide is if you think it brings glory to God or not!

What we "decide" and what we "think is right" should not enter into the equation.

That is a real problem with post-modern man. We go on our thinking, feeling, decisions and not one the absolutes of God's Word.

And when someone tries to TEACH an absolute with which we disagree, we reject or ignore it and continue on our way.

Yet what are the absolutes apart from God's Word? Can you really quote scripture say "This is what it means" and call "This is what it means" absolute truth?

Pragmatism. Pragmatism. Pragmatism. The end does NOT justify the means, people. Come on! There are ABSOLUTES in the scripture such as HAVE NO FELLOWSHIP WITH THE UNFRUITFUL WORKS OF DARKNESS, BE NOT COMFORMED TO THIS WORLD, LOVE NOT THE WORLD, ETC. ETC. ETC. I know you love to "walk around" these verses under the guise of not agreeing with the interpretation of these verses, but that does not change their timelessness and veracity. Wake up and smell the coffee!

Hmmm my coffee smells pretty strong here, ususally French Vanilla.

Ok ...that does it, I'm pitching out my computer this minute and oh darn there goes my car and how about nahhhhh <sigh> oh all right my tv too. Be back folks gotta get a pad lock for my door and shades for every window and seal myself tight into this little room so no worldly things can get in and I can't get to any worldly things, I mean after all the bible does say to remain separated from the world.

Point taken? Nahhh I don't think so, I think I'll have to continue here, if the above sounds just a bit off the wall well that is exactly what every person who uses the separation scripture to justify their stand against Christian rock must do to truly bring their interpretation of that verse to life.

Darkness and fruit of darkness? I wont' even justify that post with a reply.

Romans 5
"I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person"

As for the music, I would like you to tell me the background of each and every person that wrote the hymns you sing at church. Please remember that those hymns were not the same ones that Jesus sang. I don't think they had piano's in church in Jesus' day as well. Please stop confusing church tradition with the Word of God. I do not think it matters, I think what matters is the heart and message of the those using the song in worship. Otherwise the Bible would be more clear on something as important as Worship. I worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, even when I sing a CCM song.

Philippians 1
15
"Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16
The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice."

Just another verse that came to mind.

Wow! You guys really came out of the corner on that post! I would love to come back with a wacky post, but I am resisting the temptation. You guys have no clue where I'm coming from or what I mean. We're not going MONASTIC, Dudes and Dudettes. Like...you know man...like we've got to clop our flip flops through this 'ole world, you know. LOL! and ROFL! Lighten up, you all. I was just trying to say watch out how you treat the Master's Music and all that stuff. I know you don't want to listen to these arguments, but I'm not writing for you guys. It's others I have in mind...so, come along for the ride, if you wish, but stay off the highway when I'm peeling "e-rubber." LOL!

Sue,
"Be back folks gotta get a pad lock for my door and shades for every window and seal myself tight into this little room so no worldly things can get in and I can't get to any worldly things, I mean after all the bible does say to remain separated from the world."

Please explain the meaning of these verses:
Rom.12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

1 John 2:15,16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

I'll be looking forward to "your interpretation."

DHK,

Whats to interpret? The one particular scripture you gave actually spelled out what those verses are speaking of.

1 John 2:15-16 ...it speaks of what being of the world is, lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride. Which is what being conformed to the world is about, those things and sins of the attitude like pride or selfishness and I could go on and on.

So, tell me whats your personal interpretation of these?

< Wake up and smell the coffee! >

Are you serious in suggesting this? Coffee?? A thing of this world... a substance which *renews* our minds-- at least when we are trying to return to full consciousness-- and is intaking something besides the Holy Spirit to do so? Being a *friend of the world* by smelling or consuming a worldly substance to help us feel a certain way is surely enmity with God! It must be as evil as contemporary music!

I love Amaretto and Hazelnut flavors. I suppose that makes me MORE worldly than Sue. And to think that I would actually post verses about worldliness in music. Shame on me! ;)
