Climate change is a normal occurrence, and we've accumulated lots of evidence for it. The only new thing about it is the introduction of man as a cause, lending the notion that it is not normal. This group of fools only adds yet another black eye to the Christian community. What arrogance it is to not only believe man is responsible, but that man through some form of taxation, can fix it.

This notion that if I want to salve my conscience, having bought a new Suburban, I can send an appropriate amount of money to offset my carbon use, is insanity.

While I agree that these things can be (and many times are) taken to extremes, surely you are not suggesting that we should deliberately misuse our environment, for example by disposing of our wate products, from nuclear waste to wads of chewed gum, just anywhere, or by recklessly clearing large areas of forest? It is not our world; it is God's. Should we therefore not take care in how me use it?

Come on folks wake up, the global warming scare is a tactic to allow the UN to garnish an income tax from every working man and woman throughout the world. If they can get people to think that they are responsible then everyone will let them into our pockets. Its all about money. They'll take it and send scientific teams out to look like they are doing something about the warming, putting folks in prison for tax evasion and enslaving them to clean up land fills.
Sure the globe is warming it hasn't stopped warming sense the last ice age.
Did you know that Mars is warming too? Its ice caps are much smaller today than when Galileo first observed them. Who has be driving SUVs on Mars' belt ways? It's a natural thing and there is not a thing man can do to reverse it. :BangHead:

I'm sure Satan is happy that we are turning from saving souls to saving the Earth.

    David,

Think about it, in a warmer world there will be less plagues.
In a world where CO2 is increased plant life will be better served as there will be less freezes. Trees will be used less for immediate fuel use as well as oil, coal and other fossil fuels as more people will not have to heat their homes in the winter seasons.
Animal life will flourish as as the food chain will increase. Insects will increase as well as foliage. Smaller animals will increase as their food source and matting seasons will increase. Fruit bearing trees will bear fruit longer producing more fruit. Birds will have 2,3 or even 4 clutches per year as the mating season will be longer.
    The positives are endless.
In a wintry world life really struggles.

These aren't the issues in this thread, IMO. I'm for conscientious stewardship of the environment.

For anyone to pay good money to a carbon offset program to assuage their conscience is insanity. Not a single thing is done in this endeavor to "help" the environment. Perhaps if you buy into that nonsense, send the perceived cost to your conscience to the mission field, where it'll do some good.

This whole issue is about control.

Is one of these things mutually exclusive of the other?

Did Jesus tell us to win souls, or save the Earth ?

I'm a creationist. I am a Christian. I believe the bible supports both of these positions. I also believe the Bible tells me not to join hands with the unfruitful works of darkness, and I believe evolutionists are workers of darkness.

I stand on the biblical stance of shunning anything the atheist evolutionist tells me. It's not God's work.

You will drive around the world to create a link between some ungodly person or agenda to connect it to something to justify your dislike. It's called "rationalization" and you do it well!

It's alright though, because sane-thinking people can see the need to take care of our planet in spite of those too stubborn or ignorant to realize this fact.

The word of God trumps even the word of dagwood. Show it to me in scripture, and I'll change my mind.

But thinking with yer heart instead of yer head makes you a liberal, and the Bible tells me my heart is wicked. So I trust his word.

Slam me all you want. I say satan likes this.

This kinda reminds me of Catholics. Scripture forbids bowing before images, but somehow the catholics feel the verse does not apply to them. We are not to work against God, we are to trust him in all things. This violates both of those pillars of my faith. I won't do it, and I think other Christians shouldn't.

Radical environmentalism is a religion. The closest description I can think of is Pantheism. god is a tree, a snail darter, a spotted owl. Mess with them and you're messing with god.

These same folks were warning us of global cooling 30 years ago, and that was our fault, too.

I know this is not very rational, but I'm at the point that whatever they're for, I'm against it.

And by the way, shame on NBC for being so gullible to buy into this junk. NBC News has quit being a straight news organization and has become an open advocate. Their credibility is shot with me. Shoot, they quit being subtle about it years ago.

I'm sorry Palatka51, but I think you have missed the point of my earlier message. I deliberately did not even mention global warming. Whether or not such a thing exists, and whether or not (if it does) it is atrributable to mankind, surely makes no difference to the fact that it is wrong for Christians to treat God's creation badly through greed, carelessness or anything else. The term "green" in this context involves more than just global warming. I think particularly of pollution by waste of all kinds. I don't imagine you are saying that it is right for people to dispose of their broken freezers, washing machines, cars, and so on, by throwing them (say) into the Grand Canyon, or to throw away litter in the streets or the countryside.

To prevent misunderstanding, in no way am I saying that environmental matters are anywhere near as important as spiritual ones.

I say again, I did not even mention climate change. I wonder if "green" in American has a different meaning to what it does here in the UK. Here it includes careful use of the environment (as Christians, we would say "of Creation") generally; it is not restricted to "global warming".

I am not scientifically qualified to judge the correctness of what you say would be the benefits of higher temperatures, but some things you say don't seem right. For instance, you say that there would be less plagues in a warmer climate. But surely many diseases spread much more easily in warmer climates. Many creatures are designed for cold climates (thick fur, etc.) Warmer weather would not benefit them. Anyway, if global warming is happening, it is not restricted to the parts that at present are cold; the hot parts will get even hotter. But I repeat, climate change was not even mentioned in my earlier post.

Sorry, it is one of the disadvantages of being separated from America by a few thousand miles - I am not aware of the implications of your "carbon offset program". I imagined that it was something similar to a proposal over here regarding household waste collection. At present, our household waste is collected by the local council (not the councillors personally, of course :) ) and the cost of the service comes from our "Council Tax" - a local tax. There is a proposal to charge households extra if they produce an inordinate amount of waste. That seems fair, and would mean that, as with phone services, electricity supply, and so on, the amount paid for waste disposal would reflect the degree to which the service is used.

Like you, I cannot see much sense in just making people pay into a "carbon offset program" which does nothing to help care for the environment.

You are correct David and I am in total agreement with you here. I was coming home from My Doctor Tuesday and just up the road from my house someone has dumped a truck load of old tires. I consider this cowardly and reprehensible on their part. There are local laws on the books that will fine these lowlifes. I just don't understand why these people do these things. There are places where old tires can be recycled. Its almost as if they do it just to do it.

I don't know why Creationists are surprised by Global warming....
    God predicted it....

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
