Marcia said:Claudia, the fact that Jesus is our Advocate in heaven (and I am well aware of this and thought you would bring it up) does not mean he is still atoning for our sins. I don't think you understand what atonment means. Atoning and advocating are different.
Jesus advocates for believers because Satan is accusing us every time we sin and fail, and Jesus steps in and says, "Wait a minute, I've paid for Marcia's sins and she is saved."
Yes, we are to obey but obeying does not and cannot save us. And the blood is not applied to those who "endeavor to obey" but to those who have faith. Have you ever read Galatians? You should. Also, Colossians.
If we could be saved by obedience, then Jesus died for nothing. He died because God knows we cannot be saved by obeying, being good, striving, etc. It is only by faith in the blood shed once for all on the cross when the atonement was complete.
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
4Did you suffer so many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain?
5So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
6Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.
13When you were (AF)dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He (AG)made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
14having canceled out (AH)the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and (AI)He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Claudia, what you have posted has absolutely nothing to do with the atonement. If you want to start a thread on the work of Satan then start a new thread. But stay on topic here. Again Satan and the book of Job, or Satan and his work has nothing to do with Christ and the atonement. Stay on topic.Claudia_T said:Now re-read it all, Satan is saying God isnt really worth serving... people only want to serve God as long as He is blessing them and giving them things...
that is what Satan is saying
Marcia said:I've done an in-depth study of Galatians, but one doesn't need to do that to understand what it says. It's pretty upfront and clear. However, those who base salvation on works don't like what it says.

You can't prove any of the statements that you made as true.

In 1Cor. 12 "each one" does not mean "every one." There is a big difference. Not every one had a gift of prophecy or the gift of tongues. Paul was teaching just the opposite of what you are saying. You take a statement out of context and try and make it say something other than what it really says. Amazing!!

Did the first century Christians in general, have the gift of prophecy. Considering this passage:
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Adam of his own will rebelled aganst God. Satan did not force his hand to sin. He chose to sin. Eve was not forced to sin. She was deceived. Satan had not much to do with it. She listened to Satan and was deceived by him. But it was her own fault. She could have taken steps to prevent herself from sinning against God. She chose to eat of that fruit. She didn't have to eat of it. She wasn't forced to. It was of her own will that she did it.
In effect Satan has nothing to do with this.
...
Satan did not start the fall of man.

Concerning Aquilla and Priscilla, it doesn't mention one name or the other alone. It always mentions them both together. You cannot say dogmatically that a woman taught Apollos.
Gen 3 GOD SAYS --
13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, ""What is this you have done?'' And the woman said, "" The serpent deceived me, and I ate.''
14 The LORD God said to the serpent, "" Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.''

Good twist on Scripture Bob. But that is not the whole of Scripture. And that is not what it says. Here is what you have quoted me saying first:BobRyan said:God said
1Cor 12
6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.
7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
But DHK said --
Facinating twist and bend of scripture on DHKs part!!
No wander man-made traditions get so much attention for those who would water down scripture in such a way!!
But then as we recall - to Calvinists "World" does not really mean "World" and "all" does not really mean "ALL".

Bob

It is instructive isn't it. It is very instructive to all who read this to see how you take a statement out of context and use it to justify your own preconceived ideas. Read the context.BobRyan said:In Corinth "EACH ONE has a revelation" as the TEXT saYS -- BUT as DHK points out "EACH one " does not really mean "EACH ONE" it means very importent men only -- so "BOTH of them" replaces "EACH one of them" in DHK's Bible.
How "instructive".
1 Corinthians 14
1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but
especially that you may prophesy.
2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
OH but "that part of the Bible is not meant for women to read" - you might be saying DHK..
You like to take Scripture out of context don't you? It is the only way you can prove a point. But then we SEE in Acts that Philips 4 daughters are prophets for the church even as Miriam was a prophet in her day and Deborah a Judge and a prophet in her day...
so much bible to be ignored DHK -- and so little time to do it. But how else are you going to get to the DHK conclusion where DHK said "Women are always out of order aren't they?"
In Christ,
Bob
I think he does.Claudia_T said:shiloh you dont even know what you're talking about

The atoning work of Christ was finished at the cross.
The most important work concerning the atoning work of Christ is found in John 19:30--It is finished!.
I have said that before; so I say it again. It cannot be ignored. Jesus finished his work on the cross. He said he did. Don't make a liar out of him.
