More Troops Going to Iraq?

From the story:

"But the top generals in the region warn that such a dramatic escalation would not only risk more American lives, it might discourage Iraqis from taking charge of their own security."

Hopfully these generals will prevail.

 

Let us pray. I recall another President who went by the name of LB Johnson who also felt he knew more than his generals. I pray Bush does not repeat his mistakes. I will say this for Bush Sr., he let the generals run the war.

 

I think President Bush is in a dream world. When is he going to figure out that ignoring experienced generals = bad news?

It seems to me that his national guard training likely did not prepare him to outwit a cadre of top-tier generals.

 

How are the Iraqis supposed to take over their own security when the top military and civil police were ousted, when they are ill-equipped and ill-trained. For that matter, which Iraqis are supposed to take over?

If he starts a pull out, in '08 or at any other point before his stated goals have been reached, then he is admitting defeat. What he will try to do is put more troops in hoping that the addition of those troops will help bring some stability to the area. The ones our military has been training. It's been almost four years. We trained millions of men in less than four years during World War II.

Not to mention, we've taken raw recruits who have served their complete military hitch in Iraq and are now out of the military in these past 4 years.

 

I'm glad he finally agree's he can't keep sending the same troops into harms way. It will definately have a impact on their future.

 

True, but the trainers spoke the same language as the trainees then rather than using grunts and gestures, and the trainees had no choice. Our volunteers were not gunned down as they stood in line to sign up.

Are we planning to fully arm them and to give them the same logistical support as we give our own? How will they be fed and clothed - and who will take care of their families left behind in a dangerous and financially insecure situation?

By September 18 approximately 302,200 Iraqi soldiers and police had completed initial training and equipping, an increase of more than 33,800 in the three months since the July 2006 report. As of September 18, approximately 95 percent of the end-strength of MOD forces were initially trained and equipped with more than 92 percent of authorized Iraqi Army battalions assembled. Remaining train-and-equip efforts will focus on building combat support and combat service support forces.

 

If they are 92% of authorized Iraqi Army battalions assembled, why would America need to send more troops? Don't you see a conflict in what we are being told?

I think our military needs to be 2.5 million strong to protect our borders and our interests elsewhere. That would be still be less than 1% of our population.

 

It is very hard to admit. Of all the elections I have voted in, this was the biggest mistake ever made, and I voted twice for this guy. I thought the vote for Nixon was a mistake, but this takes the cake. This president is going through melt down.
