Most Dominant Athlete

Jordan, because he dominated a team game.

 

I would have to vote for Jordan at this point. His work on the court is done; Tiger is still forming his legacy. Michael led the Bulls to two back-to-back-to-back championships. There has been none like him before nor yet after him.

Tiger is a great player playing in a sport of other great players. He stands above the rest but doesn't overshadow them as does Michael IMO.

 

I tend to think Woods because it is an individual sport and he cannot control those he plays against.

But I wouldn't argue against MJ. We will look back and be amazed that we saw both these men play.

I picked Tiger, even though I love basketball alot more then I will ever love golf, because it is an individual sport. Tiger against nature and other men. Jordon, team mates and um, err, refs against another team or 5 other men.
The outcome truely lies more in the hands of Tiger then Jordon.

Chuck you have made me start to re- think my answer with that "is golf really a sport"!:laugh:

 

I'd have to go with Jordan. The reason is that a superior basketball player HAS to be a superior athlete while a superior golfer may not necesarily be superior as the John Daly comment shows.

It's not an easy choice though because both raised the level of their respective game.

 

Ask me again in five years, if I'm still around, to get some prespective.

Seriously, I would go with Jordan, but Tiger's career is still unwritten, so we'll see.

 

I have to go with Tiger. Jordan played a team game, and though he is most likely the best b-baller we have ever seen, he still need a team to win games. The Bulls of the 90´s were incredible even though I could not stand them. Consider Lebron of the current generation. Its too early to say he is the next Jordan but the comparisons have been made, and obviously needs better team mates if Cleveland will ever be great team (instead of a good team).

So I pick Tiger.

 

This is much like having to decide who was the most dominating add man. The Maytag repairman or Mr. Whipple? One pitched washing machines and the other toilet paper. :laugh: Both elevated their product's name and increased sells.
Jordan had increased not only viewers to the sport but also increased ticket sells. You might add that he brought the white spectator back to NBA basketball.
Tiger too has increased interest in professional golf. At a time where there was a waining of viewers due to no single dominating golfer between the Nicklaus/Palmer era and Tiger's.

So when you think of toilet paper you think of Mr. Whipple squeezing the Charmin.:laugh: When you think of washing machines you might think of the Maytag brand with the repairman that sleeps on the job.:laugh:

When you think of NBA basketball you think of those fantastic jams that Jordan is famous for.
When you think of golf you are thinking of fist pumps after a spectacular long putt for birdie that Woods is famous for.

Apples and oranges if you ask me.

If you wanted to compare who dominated/dominates their sport you should have included Richard Petty in the choices. But that's just my opinion and add a quarter to that will still not buy you a cup of coffee.
Well hey, he did bring notoriety to his spot and to this day when one thinks of Goody's or STP he has been the greatest ad/pitchman in all of advertising. Who else has promoted two products and dominated their sport?

I'm going with Jordan. I don't see Woods running up and down, hitting fade-a-way's with a 7 footer in his face...getting knocked around daily while playing ot exhaustion. I harldy consider golf a "sport". It's like archery or bowling...skill .

Also, Jordan is a pretty good golfer. Put Woods on the hardcourt, and I doubt he would be as good at b-ball as Jordan is at golf.

 

It does not matter if you think golf is a sport or not its still a sport by definition. Have you ever played golf? I mean not just plunk balls around but actually played competitively? Jordan is an OK golfer. But him in a regular PGA event (even LPGA for that matter) and I doubt he would finnish in the top 10.

 

Nah I would still go with Tiger as my choice since golf is more of an individual sport than basketball. Even the most dominant b-ballers need 4 other guys to help him win games.
