    In observance of its 25th anniversary, Preaching magazine (an evangelical gem of a homiletics magazine) listed its 25 most influential books on preaching as listed by editors and readers.

    Robinson's book is #1 on the list and deserves to be. It is unsurpassed. The best books on homiletics that I have read other than it are by students of his who have built upon it. His book compels the preacher to reduce his sermon to one simple thought in one simple sentence. This is good because, if the preacher has not honed his presentation so that he knows exactly what he is trying to say, it is not likely that his audience will know what he is trying to say.

    I am absolutely amazed that this book is so far down that list.......
    12 Preaching & Preachers by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Zondervan).

    By far the best book I ever read on preaching and preachers.

    I agree, Swaimj. I'd argue that in many ways, Haddon's book, and 20, 21, and 23 are all cousins. And all these come from Broadus's classic On the Preparation & Delivery Of Sermons as far as a sermon being based on a proposition (the SGB reprint of the 2nd release of this book should've made the top 25 IMHO).

    Jim, you're right, too. I reread Preaching and Preachers once a year at least.

    Wow.....I'm sure no one ever thought of that one. I know we've never heard that one before :rolleyes::eek::applause::tongue3:

    Actually, if you listen to a lot of preaching, you'll know the Bible has no influence on it whatsoever, especially in most Baptist churches.
