Do you attend a church that has more than one staff (Meaning more than the pastor, his secretary, and the custodian?)

Who manages the church staff at your church?

Aren't there churches that have a staff member(other than a senior pastor) supervise the other ministers?

In my church I am the lone pastor. No custodian, no secretary (unless you count it when my 3 year old daughter accidentally answers the phone!) I suppose I manage myself (If you knew me well, you would realize how difficult this actually is!!)

EXXON, the pastor should be over all aspects of the church.
In my church everything that is done must be aproved by my preacher first. SInce our church is really smalll, a few people do a lot of everything. We have no real "associate pastor," as there are several men in my church called to preach, and they do the service if my preacher isn't there. We do have a secretary, and we have a book keeper who does all member records, and reports to the secretary. A woman in our church who is in charge of gathering all the papers the missionaries send and putting them in the prayer list. My preacher's son is song leader. Me, my friend Nicole, and tow other ladies can play piano and organ, so we never do without that aspect of the service! [IMG] My best friend, Jason drives the church van, and is over visitation, he also, along with me does church cleaning. {Boy is that a job! but I do enjoy it!} We have two men who do yard work, and one who knows about construction, and praise the Lord, he was there last saturday putting in the wireing in the remodeled kitchen!
We also have the ladies group, {surprisingly they put up with me, and let me be in the group, and that surprised me.} and we do decorating for special events, prepare food for get togethers, or funerals, meet for fellowship and Bible study once a month.
We have three men who are able to run the sound room during services.
I guess we have a little of everything, and we all kinda do something. I think everyone there is involved in one or more aspect of the church. I love what little I do, and I'd like to do more, I'm just not sure what I could do. We all, before making any big decisions go to preacher first.
But anyways, I'm not sure if I posted to what you ment. I tried. :D

Interesting post Abby. The reason I asked the question that I did is that I have the impression that really large churches have a staff member who supervises the other staff members--freeing up the senior pastor to carry out his pastoral, preaching, and teaching ministries.

Back in the 80's I pastored a church with 9 full-time staff. To free me (Senior Pastor) for the ministry of the Word and prayer, I had an Assistant Pastor who oversaw the day-to-day ministries of all the others.

I met once a week for a staff meeting, but I was the "last resort" to mediate problems. My role was planning and visionary and let the staff work out the details.

Ah, the good ol' days! It still about burned me out. I worked much better the next 5 years as Dean of a small college. Staff members there were all capable (or more) to do MY job, so we could work more as a team.

My pastor tends to be the visionary and we work it out.

We meet once a week to get together, vent it out, cry, pray, etc. Then we go on.

"the pastor should be over all aspects of the church."

For some silly reason, I thought that JESUS had this position. I guess you're never too old to learn something new, huh?

At our church, we have the senior pastor and pastor of pastoral ministries. And then under them both is me the intern. we each have our duties and are overseen by the senior pastor who spends much time in prayer.
