Muppets..is it good viewing for the church?

How 'bout viewing a King James Bible ? Maybe a hymnal once in a while ?

 

I once saw a hymnal once that had a song about a cabin in heaven. There are mansions in heaven, not cabins. The church needs truth, not hymnals.

 

Now Natters you know a God fearing individual would never watch the Muppets.

 

Where I'm from, cabins are mansions.

 

Oooh, those sweet ladies that taught me in Sunday School as a child would have tanned my bottom if I had said something like that. The cabins will be left down here. We're going to the Big House when we die.

Personally, I like the muppet critics. They remind me of me, LOL.

A cabin fits quite nicely with the meaning of the Greek.

I absolutely love the Muppets, watched the Muppet Show religiously and was one of the first to check out the "Muppets 3D" show at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim (it's also at the DIsney MGM Studios in Orlando). Muppets 3D is one of the most fun and nostalgic shows I've ever seen. And yes, the two critics ar there, and they're still a riot.

He's also in the Muppets 3D show. He runs the projector booth, shouting "Der Flim is okee dokee!!"

 

that cabin thing- is that true for Hebrew and Greek?

 

If memory serves, the word in Greek is "mone" (pronounced like the landscape artist), which literally means actually "rooms" or "dwellings". In the 1600's "mansions" referred to a dwelling or room that was well-cared for. Today, the word strictly means a large residential estate. In today's language, the best interpretation is "In my Father's house are many rooms".

 

what about 'The Dark Crystal?' Its rather new agey...

 

What a fun thread. Mind if I jump in? Ahat about Japanese "manga" comics? Are they good for the church? Personally, I don't recommend them in general--they can have some really nasty stuff, and in the States earlier this year I notice they are getting popular in translation.

Johnv is quite right about "mansion." The truth is that the King's English version of the word "mansion" does not mean what the American "mansion" does, so many KJV readers get mixed up about it because they know the President's English, not the King's.

Here in Japan, they use the British meaning for a nice apartment, and pronounce it "manshion."

My rule is just to leave all the secular movies, shows, and music out of church. There are tons of great Christian media out there.
