"The pardon will allow him to take his case back to an immigration judge and possibly get his deportation order overturned."

Gov. Jerry Brown announced Friday the granting of 36 gubernatorial pardons, given to have those who have "demonstrated exemplary behavior" and lived "productive and law-abiding lives" following past convictions.
Brown wrote in granting the pardon..."While the seriousness of the crime can never be minimized, I believed that [he] should be permitted to have the chance at remaining in the community"

Read the article. From it I gleaned, the man:
  • legally came at the age of three as a refugee from Cambodia.
  • was arrested and convicted in 1994 for second-degree murder.
  • was sent to the California Youth Authority and was released in 2001.
  • since his release has led an exemplary life.
So, we are not talking about someone who is currently a gang banger. I guess the governor figured he had already served his time. Mind you, I've never voted for the man.
