I saw that the other day, love it!

 

Getting older and slower. Saw this '64 Caddy (newer than me!) on eBay and have been trying to convince madre that it would make a nice car for traveling, getting groceries, etc. She ain't buying it and, apparently, neither am I.

 

I owned a 1966 Buick La Sabre rag top back in the 70's. 375 Wildcat motor with a four barrel carb. White with white interior. Varoom! Image Here.

That takes me back.

 

Couldn't have been a New York car, poncho. It still has rockerpanels and rear quarters.

There is an old Cadillac in my future. The '64 is my favorite but a '59 Eldorado conv -say something red with white leather - that would drive. LE, my grandmother had a '60 bubbletop. Great cars.

poncho, if you ever need any help restoring one of those '66s, I'm just over the hill. Geographically speaking not age.

 

I'm looking for a work truck right now but if ever I do find a restorable "66" La Sabre I'll give ya a shout!

I tried to convince my wife that I needed this car: Titan Supra

However, she said that any car that costs half as much as our house was out of the question.

So, I guess I'll have to settle for this: 2006 Supra

Oh, Drat! My wife saw me typing and now she's giving me "the" lecture about how I will have to settle for the Supra I currently own.

Oh, well. Maybe one day she will grow up and realize just how much we really need this...

 

Hope of Glory, The women folk are sly creatures. If she used the "any car that costs half as much as our house was out of the question" line on you what she was really saying was, "you get me a bigger,nicer house the Titan Supra becomes negotiable."

Here's a real mid-life crisis car story for ya'. Three years ago I had located a Corvette that was in the price range (I had a mild mid-life. Real one's have no price limits), the right color and, at first blush, would meet my need for speed and ego. madre was as supportive as any perimenopausal woman could possibly be. We went and looked at the car, drove it for an hour or two, climbed over it, under it... madre finally says, "How are you going to get it to camp?" I tried to imagine going down the old mud-filled logging trail, through the creek and low hanging branches across the meadow....

So I ended up with new tires for my truck and a new pair of tall rubber boots for myself.

 

Women! My wife likes to point out that I can use mine for about four months out of the year as well. You can't live with 'em, what color was the Vette?

 

1975, dark red metallic, cloth seats, whezzy 350, automatic.....

I hope they produce that Challenger though. I'll go to the showroom and drool like adog over a bone, try to convince madre how nice it will be, she'll roll her eyes and I'll get something new for the truck.

Ain't it nice how that stuff works out?

 

My one hope of ever getting a Mark IV Supra is that the Mark V will drive the price down below $12,000. Now, a new minivan, I could probably talk her into...

I have to admit, though, she does suffer me a bit. She bought me a new car cover for my Supra. (It may have been self-preservation, so I won't ask for a new paint job or something.)

Have you seen the new Vettes? They're pretty awesome, and they actually get good gas mileage if you stay off the accelerator.

 

Stay off the accelerator? Could you see a meeting of a Corvette club with the folks lying about their gas milage? One old timer would have to stand up and say, "Back in my day we used to lie about how fast we could go. Kids these days!"
