Music at your church?

Blended - Hymns and choruses, often in medleys. We only have piano accompaniment.

 

Hymns and choruses....Same here and would like to change churches. Old hyms are ok :sleep:,but the Pastor feels most of the contemporary is of the flesh.:saint:

Due to my job circumstance, I am involved (at some level, if only attendance infrequently) in several churches.

Church at work One: Music is a mix between traditional hymns and CCM music. On the hymns, the hymnal piano tracks are played. On the CCM music, there is a mix of tracks and the recorded version of the song played. The music director stands up and waves his hands.

Church at work Two: Music is contemporarily gospel. A fantastic band plays. The choir sings and everyone else does, too.

Church at home One: Contemporarily to "post modern" whatever that mean. Live band plays. Songs are sang, "led" by a lead vocalist.

Church at home two: Live band with an extreme variety of music from traditional to blended to contemporary to southern freak gospel, to red necked to .... hmmm. who knows.

 

We don't have coffee but we do have a cookie lady. She brings several dozen cookies every week.... Where were we? Oh, yes, the music....

Piano, guitar (acoustic), bass, drums, sometimes 2 saxophones, or 1 sax and another guitar. Last week it was just piano and guitar. Contemporary to traditional.

 

Two services:

#1 is blended -- hymns, choruses, "updated" versions of old hymns. Our "orchestra" has synthiesized strings, but real brass, woodwinds, electric bass and lead guitars, piano, organ, drum set. Small choir (30-40) with 6 lead singers.

#2 is contemporary -- choruses, newer praise songs, some "updated" hymns. Accompanied by a couple acoustic guitars, electric bass, drum set, piano. No choir, but 1-4 lead singers.

 

Just hymns, no choruses or "special music" and just a piano, no rock band.

 

all of the above. We use new stuff, old stuff, ancient stuff. A few weeks ago we used, during the course of a Sunday...piano, organ, guitars (acoustic/electric), banjo, mandolin, violin, upright bass, keyboards, bass guitar, bongos/congas, and probably something I'm leaving out.

It's been neat to watch in our church...we have all sorts of personal preferences, but we've avoided the "worship wars" that some seem to have. Our folks genuinely get along in this area. It's really a blessing, and God is moving.

I forgot to mention the musical food.

Church at work one: No food or coffee unless they have it upstairs hidden in the Sunday School classes.

Church at work two: There is a pop machine and a snack machine at the site probably only because they rent the facility. Otherwise nothing else.

Church at home one: Coffee and Panera Bread day olds every week. Woo Hoo!

Church at home two: Coffee and whatever on special weeks.

We have a blended style at church, with hymns and choruses. not much as far as "new" music, but the choir does sing stuff that's not in the "redback" hymnal.

We have piano, organ, bass, and electric (rhythym) guitar. When he's up to it we have a happy elderly chap who plays the lap guitar, too.

We just called a young pastor, so (hopefully) we will start infusing some more recent music into the mix. Not to shake things up, but to add to the praise of His name.

 

where i go - (and also play) - we play more contemporary music.

we've played hymns and still do occassionaly.
we usually play songs by Hillsongs, Chris Tomlin and a couple others i can't remember right now.

at the moment - i am trying to introduce some more songs.
music by Shawn Mcdonald, Paul Wright, Jars of Clay, Burlap to Cashmere, David Crowder Band. something with more acoustic and piano feel to it.

the instruments we use:

Acoustic and occassionaly electric guitar (when we have enough people)
drums (kit, djembe, bongo, conga)
keyboard (simply because an actual piano would not fit on the stage)
and bass guitar.
i'm also going to try and introduce the didgeridoo. =P

we have two teams.
the one is more towards a rock feel - always have an electric with that team.
two acoustics, drum kit, bass, two vocals and keyboard.

the second team is a little simpler - softer acoustic feel.
one, sometimes two acoustics, drum kit and sometimes congas and djembe, bass and keyboard. i play more with this team.

i love playing. =)
for me - just playing the music is more worship for me than singing.
i'm always distracted when i sing along. heh.

Traditional Baptist hymns, piano and organ, choir - sometimes the
special music includes instruments, guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin,
accordion, flute.....others will be added as the church grows.

no drums, and no accompanying tracs.

Some choruses on Sunday nights, but no praise hymns that drone
on and on.....thank goodness!
