In 1887, Lyman Smith and his three brothers opened the Smith Premier Typewriter Company,
In 1926, they merged with the Corona Typewriters to form Smith-Corona.
During WW II they manufactured a top-secret pin-and-plug cipher machine, the M-209,
which ws instrumental in the Allied war effort and continued to be used during the Korean War.
At one point the Company was producing one-half of all typewriters in the US.

Mine we was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the location of "the world's worst driver" (in 1969, I think), who got-- don't remember the exact numbers-- several tickets and had a few accidents in one day. A guy my sister went with in high school said he and his mother were involved in one of the mishaps.

I was born in a little town in Colorado, Canon City, which was back in the day known for its prison. The prison was located on the outskirts of town, not too far from residential housing. When my mom, and her many brothers and sisters were young, they played a game where they tried to sneak as close as they could to the prison walls before the guards notice them and turned on the spot lights. Not a game we would play today....

I went to Norwalk High in Norwalk CA. I was in the Library Club where I met Vernon Butts. He was strange. He did magic. The librarian asked me to take him to church but I did not.
He became an accomplice to the Freeway Killer William Bonin killed at least 21 young boys. Vernon committed suicide in his jail cell while awaiting trial. William Bonin was executed.

Where do they attend chruch?
There is a small baptist church in Eaton.
Used to be Pastor Tom Clark, but He died and I have not met the new Pastor. My mother in law is 84 and most of the congregation are seniors.

My home town also has provided the setting for quite a few motion pictures ... the original Benji movie, the TV movie of 1977, The Trial of Lee Harvey Osward, Hallmark's An American Story, a lot of scenes from Dallas {Southfork Ranch is about 15 miles away) and Walker, Texas Ranger, and some of which I've seen some of the the filming but never found out what movie or show it was. BTW does anyone know any movie or episode where there was a Page Police Department in a shootout at an old courthouse?
