I just got my "The Books Of The Bible" ( TNIV ) in the mail today . I got it for free . It orders the books of the Bible chronologically . It also has no verse or chapter distinctions , no headings or footnotes either . I'll be able to enjoy lots of free roaming as I read for longer periods of time . I'll have none of the normal distractions .

I'm really looking forward to this . It arrived less than 30 minutes ago .

Just looked this up on CBD, and it seems to be more of a Reader's Digest condensed version of the Bible.

(Assuming this is the product you have
"The Books of the Bible
By: John H. Sailhamer
Zondervan / 1998 / Paperback" )

Product Description

Turn here for exactly the kind of informative, easy-to-read overviews you're looking for. From theology, to biblical archaeology, to the life of Christ and more, each volume covers a topic of vital interest to Christians in handy one-page bits of information. The Zondervan Quick-Reference Library is knowledgeable, fascinating, and helpful. It cuts time and hassle by taking you straight to the heart of the things you most want to know about Christianity-one minute at a time.

If this is not correct, I'd like more info--!

No , you're wrong . As I said the books ( all 66 ) are arranged chronologically , so the order is different than what we are used to . And it has the other features I mentioned .

So let me get back to my reading !

While the TNIV is an improvement of the NIV, it is not for everyone.

While the NASBU is an improvement of the NASB , it is not for everyone .

I've preached from the TNIV before. In fact, some of my favorite evangelical scholars were either translator or endorsers of the TNIV:

Gordon Fee
Douglas Moo
Bruce Waltke
DA Carson
Darrell Bock
Tremper Longman, III.
John Stott

The fact that all of these staunch conservative scholars endorsed and/or translated the TNIV gives it a lot of credibility in my book too. Especially Stott, Fee, and Moo -- all of who I have met personally; each of them have a spiritual life that I look up to!

Add these guys also : Craig Blomberg , Timothy George , Allan Johnson , John R. Kohlenberger III , Roger Nicole , Mark Strauss . Warren Wiersbe is not a scholar as such but well-respected in the evangelical community over the last 50 years or so .
