NASCAR around the corner

I know it's the trendy pick, but I'm going with Junior for the champion. Making the change to Pete Rondeau as crew chief will turn out to be the right move. I don't have anything against Tony Eury Sr., but they had their best season in 04 and couldn't get the job done. When that team is good, they're very, very good (Daytona and Bristol). But, when they're bad, they're horrid. (Las Vegas)

Rookie candidates look like Travis Kvapil, Kyle Busch and Boris Said. Boris is one of the greatest road course drivers there is, but unless he comes out and picks up oval racing very, very quickly, Kyle Busch wins it.

 

Kyle Bush has to be the pick for ROTY. The Championship? Jeff Gordon is certainly due and you can't keep him down for long, but I think Ryan Newman will put it all together and be the champ this year.

 

I hope Mark Martin wins it all.

Kyle Busch is a no brainer for ROY. I would love to see Mark Martin win, he deserves it. But I would enjoy also seeing Earnhardt Jr, Stewart, Bobby LaBonte, or Dale Jarrett win as well. Almost anyone but Jeff Gordon

 

I agree with Ken, I'd love to see Martin win it. But I think it's a long shot.

Morgan Shepherd will likely be the 2005 Champion, unless Ted Musgrave makes a comeback.

Seriously, I'd watch out for Tony Stewart and Jr. this year. Maybe Gordon (Jeff), also watch Johnson.

 

Never been a Gordon fan, but I'm getting used to him, at least.

I've been in a lot of the garages, and don't like the setup at Hendrick because it doesn't look like teamwork to me. But the results speak otherwise, so I guess I'm missing something.

Joe Gibbs Racing is the opposite, it really has the feel of a team operation. And if I dropped my hot dog onthe floor, I'd pick it up and eat it, it's that clean.

 

I'd love Tony Stewart to win again. Like Pennsylvania Jim, I've been to JGR and, yep, I'd eat off that floor too. But, realistically, I think this year it'll go to Junior.

 

Anyone3 watch the Gatorade Duals today? DEI ran one-two. I guess Junior figured out how to release the parking brake on the 8. Waltrip was strong at the only track he can run at.

Harvick and Johnson break the rules of physics in Turn 2 34 laps into Dual 2. Could Tony Stewart be the real deal again?

 

I saw a little of each race and made a point to see the last 10 laps of each. Looks like DEI is still the combo to beat, though Jimmy Johnson looks strong. I am a MOPAR fan so I was glad to see Newman run well. The sleeper of the race is Jeff Burton. He has the best chance to pull an upset.

 

I've never put much stock into qualifying being a barometer of how a particular team will do during the race, and that was never more apparent than it was yesterday.

So much for DEI struggling at Daytona. Not only did Michael and Jr run 1-2, but Truex is in the race, as is Kenny Wallace, both of them having DEI power. I'm really impressed by the DEI teams to be able to find speed between Saturday and yesterday and then Michael said they'll have even more on Sunday. It could be a long day for the rest of the field.

Mark Martin has always been my favorite driver. I'd love to see him win this year since he's retiring (semi-retiring?) after this season.

Sorry guys, Jr. and Gordon make me want to barf.

I cheer for the accident magnet 22-Caterpillar Car.
I worked for Cat for 4 years and still working for them but through an agency. It seems no matter how good the car is doing, there'll be a wreck and he's in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

The first race I watched was a few years ago when Ward Burton was 2nd at Daytona and Jimmy Spencer fixed his car on a red flag. Which pushed Ward into 1st.

 

I don't think that was Jimmy Spencer, was it? It was the guy who drives/drove the Coors car . . . what IS his name? Thinking, thinking, thinking . . . Oh! Sterling Marlin! That was about the dumbest thing I've ever seen anybody do. I guess he just wasn't thinking.
