Nascar at Indianapolis

    I missed most of the beginning of the race, but I just heard Brad Daugherty say that the tire falling off so quickly is a "double-edge sword for these guys." Can somebody explain to me how this is so?

    Is there a favorable consequence to a tire that falls off so quickly? Brad keeps using that word. I do not think it means what he thinks it means.


    I've also heard that this is the first car that Lance McGrew built from the ground up for Earnhardt. I'm glad they explained, because I was rather confused about why he was running in the Top 10.

    9. You finally get to practice the art of pit parking - have not gotten to since a year ago
    8. You've been meaning to spend more face-to-face time with your crew
    7. Sponsor stickers get more face time on TV
    6. You never liked your water bottle getting stale anyway
    5. You can search for lost golf balls in the infield during all those pit stops
    4. Rubber shreds make for great fan momentos
    3. Never have to worry about a tire war because Firestone/Hoosier will never be able to supply you with this many tires
    2. Just to be close to Brad Daugherty is making your day
    and the #1 positive effect of poor tire wear at Indy:
    1. Just in case Jeremy Mayfield gets a TRO, you'll be in the pits when he's on the track.

    I suppose this race sort of made up for last year's debacle, but there's nothing more conducive to no drama than Jimmie Johnson leading at the end of a race. There was no question that he was going to hold off Mark Martin to win.

    I would like to thank NASCAR for helping me get a much needed nap Sunday afternoon. :sleep: The other choice was to watch my neighbor stain his fence and wait for it to dry. I took my chances with the race because I don't have a recliner in the backyard.

    Speaking of tires falling off.... Was that Kyle in the wall? I think I'll go peel and onion and work up some tears.

    I saw none of the race on the tube, but heard the last 15 laps on the radio. The radio guys, God bless 'em, made those last 10 laps sound like the most dramatic and riveting in the history of the sport, but somehow I knew that Mark Martin was not going to pass Jimmy Johnson.
