Nascar at Martinsville

This is going to be the first week of doing this that my initial post won't be over the 10,000 character limit for posts on this board. That's mostly because I fell asleep during the race. I'm blaming my sleepiness on 2 things. #1, I'm getting old. #2, I stayed up to midnight the night before and woke up at 5.

42 degree air temp today. Pretty cold. Glad I'm sitting here in my warm house in my comfortable chair and not in those cold stands. If you sat in the stands for that race, you're either tougher or crazier than I am.

We're 20 laps into the race and I'm starting to think the Busch brothers don't like each other very much. I don't understand why Kurt couldn't cut his brother some slack, especially 20 laps into a 500 lap race.

Kenseth got the worst of the collision with Jeff Burton. I don't think the damage will hurt him too much at this track.

Junior took the lead and is driving away. DW said he thought the #88 would be very good at Texas and while I agree with that, I think he's going to win today. Historically, Martinsville has been a pretty good track for him.

*shaking head sadly* Race cars with air conditioning in them. *sighs* Maybe a/c really does make the drivers concentrate better and get less worn out, but I just don't like the idea of race cars with a/c. Call it macho posturing, or a purist, or old-fashioned (which isn't really a bad word around this board, I guess), or whatever, but I wouldn't want a/c in my race car. Rather than spend time making a/c work in my race car, I'd rather the crew spend that time making my car go faster.

From about 2:30 to 3:30, I fell asleep. Taking a nap during a race is becoming a common occurence for me. Must not be getting enough sleep. I had a sleep disorder that has sort of gone away over the last few years, so you'd think I would be smarter than this, but apparently I'm not.

Watched the final seconds of Memphis over Texas. I picked Texas, but I'm not surprised that Memphis won. What's surprising is the 18 point difference between the 2 teams.

In a moment of clarity now that I woke up, I realize that the Fox guys must have gotten the memo, because they're not gushing over Kyle Busch as they were earlier in the season. I wonder which of them won the presidency of the fan club.

There's a reason that Jeff Gordon didn't bump Junior out of the way to pass him. It's because there 175 laps to go. If there were 5 to go, Jeff would bump Junior out of the way to win.

Kenseth just punted David Gililand and I think that's the 2nd guy Matt's punted today. Rather out of character for him. Maybe the collision with Jeff Burton earlier put him in a bad mood.

The driver is from Virginia. The band was from Virginia. (Seriously, the "hightie tighties"???) Fox has an executive producer from Virgina. And they're racing in Virginia. Yep, it's all lining up. Virginia's officially the coolest place in America today.

Now that the novelty of Junior running up front is done, I want more. I'm not tired of Top 5s, but I'm tired of not winning. It's time to start winning races.

And, that's it. As usual, I didn't stick around to hear post-race interviews, but changed channels and watched the Kansas/Davidson game until it was time to go.

I completely agree about the Pettys. Would be sad.
