Nascar - Don't make me laugh

This has about as much force as black flagging someone on the final lap.

 

I say give the boys the freedom to express themselves. NASCAR was built on rivalries and feuds. They are trying to be more politically correct but that is not what most fans tune in to see.

Yes and no..

As Tim Flock said when ask how many races would Dale Earnhardt had won if he race when he did in the 40's and 50's, he said not many. He said you could hit the other drivers cars but not in the left rear quarter panel and he felt Dale did to much of that. He said if he ever hit me there I would have taken him out of every race I couldn't win, and be ready for a good fight after the race every week. As it was said when Tim said that, that was an old school driver telling a new school driver where he was wrong.

I know from going to a lot of NASCAR races in the 50's and 60's, you needed to be a good drive and a good fighter after the race too. These drivers were just good ole boys from the south for the most part. Most of these drivers were big boys for the time in their size. Most of the drivers of today are smaller than the average guy. It took a strong guy to race back then, no power steering and driving a tank.

Today these drivers have to be able to sell the sponsor on the car and look well for TV and race well. It is a different sport. Edwards, Bush and Stewart are the type who will fight after the race or while it is going on, but 2 of the 3 many don't like because fighting don't sell well today. And most of the girls like how Edwards looks, looks go along way today.

If the sponsor's yell, NASCAR will react. And the hard time teams are having finding a sponsor today, they have the big hammer. They win more money today but it cost so much more to run today. When you go from stock cars to these cars of today a lot changes and how much you agree with it depends on when one came into NASCAR.

I even recall in the Indy type cars of all the fighting that went on after races with AJ and others, noww their drivers seem to be more of the wine for lunch bunch and NASCAR isn't far behind, not saying they aren't good racers but not the same animal.

 

I think this rivalry is the best thing in NASCAR in a long time. I hope they finish one-two in 2/3rds of the Chase races.
