Here are the five initial entries into NASCAR's new Hall of Fame, with my opinion of their selection:

Bill France Sr. Belongs in this inaugural class without a doubt. Arguably could have gone in as the lone entry the first year, and I don't think anyone would have complained.

Bill France Jr. Belongs in the Hall of Fame--next year. David Pearson would have been the preferable pick in this spot. However, Bill France Jr. was able to enlarge upon his father's vision for the sport and grow it. Son's are not always able to follow in their father's steps, much less are they able to accomplish even more.

Richard Petty A shoo-in and was probably a unanimous pick, as he should have been. His records are unmatched and unmatchable. There are many drivers for whom the claim is made that they were the best ever, but there always has to be a lengthy explanation as to how they were better than "The King".

Dale Earnhardt He rose to the top of the sport and dominated it during his prime during a time in which competition increased dramatically with a personna that was right for the times.

Junior Johnson Another pick who could have waited one year. As a driver, his stats are good, but not great. As a team owner, his teams dominated for a good span, but not remarkably more than other teams have done at other times. This pick, in my mind is interchangeable with at least 6 different people, right off the top of my head.

No Bobby Allison and no David Pearson just goes to show what a silly joke NASCAR has become.

Wendell Scott shouldn't be there, but he will because they'll want to appease the PC crowd.

No way Bobby Allison belongs in the inaugural class. I'll go along with Pearson over Junior Johnson, but Allison doesn't belong over Bill France Jr. I think Junior Johnson should go in before Allison, but Cale Yarborough or Lee Petty should have gotten in before Junior.

The next three clear entries are Pearson, Cale Yarborough, and Lee Petty. Others in the running for next year should be Dale Inman (he's got more championships and more wins than anybody in NASCAR history), Bruton Smith (most innovative owner/promoter in the sport's history), Herb Thomas and Tim Flock, both of whom had high win percentages. I think Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip go in at the same time since they have the same number of victories and DW has more championships while BA has more Daytona 500 wins. But, save them for year three.

I don't really care. And, knowing Bobby, I doubt he does, either.

I stopped watching the cars go around in circles when it started to become fake like wrestling.

the most foolish part of all this? That it took until now to have an inaugural NASCAR HOF. What took them so long?

Great. I'm so glad you posted. I always love it when people who say they don't care about Nascar come and post to make sure that everybody knows they "don't care". If you really and truly didn't care about Nascar, you wouldn't post in this thread. Simple as that.

Which races do you think were scripted? And be careful with your answer, because that's a trick question. There aren't any races that were scripted. If you believed the nonsense that went around in the 90s about teams that supposedly received "the call", then I can't help you.

Good question. I don't have the first clue. It is long overdue.

I don't care. But I was a fan for a long time and I believe that entitles me to have an opinion.

If you don't like it, then put me on ignore.

Didn't say anything about them being scripted.

Have all the opinions you want, that's fine with me. Your opinion is that Allison should be in the inaugural class and mine is that I don't think he belongs in the inaugural class.

My point about not caring is that you clearly do care or you wouldn't post here at all. Not my fault if you don't like having that pointed out.

Why would I have an ignore list? I'm an adult, not a child.

Still waiting for that list of races that were scripted.

    Could have fooled me.

Still waiting for you to tell me where I ever said they were scripted.

So, you're trying to pick a fight with me now?

This is where it came from.

Whenever somebody says that Nascar racing is "fake like wrestling", they typically mean that the winner of a race is predetermined, like it is in pro wrestling. Hence, it's scripted so a certain driver wins. Is there some other conclusion I was supposed to draw from this? If not, what do you mean by saying that it's "fake like wrestling"?

David Pearson should have went in but he isn't in the lime light today, so many don't recall how great he was. I think he was number one. Better than any of the drivers who went in. But he isn't big on NASCAR today.

Herb Thomas and Tim Flock and Tim's brothers most don't even know of today. Bobby Allison don't know how great he was and from watching him in Fl. and Al. before his NASCAR days, I would say Red Farmer was better and their weren't many better than Bobby.

Keep in mind, if one didn't keep in the lime light after they quit they aren't going to get as many votes as they might have.

Bob, I think this statement is true as it concerns the average fan. However, the voters who made the hall of fame selections are not average fans. They are people who have been in and around NASCAR for a long time.

Having said that, I am sortof re-thinking my opinion about Pearson being passed over. I still think he should have been picked over Bill France Jr. However, Junior Johnson has probably had a greater impact on the growth of the sport than David Pearson has had. This comes from his driving, his team-owning, and his suggestion to NASCAR that they get Reynolds tobacco to sponsor the sport. So, I think the selection committee, if it came down to Pearson or Johnson, was correct to pick Johnson. Not my initial reaction, but I am now of that opinion.

Brother, we all see thing differently from time to time. All I know is that David Pearson is the best stock car driver that I have ever seen. I believe he should have been put in ahead of any driver. But as I said we all see things differently.

I saw Johnson race many a time and as a driver he wasn't as good as David or Ned Jarrett, Bobby Allison, Richard Petty or Lee Petty in my eyes. As a car owner he was better than all the others but for Lee Petty. Didn't Lee own Petty Racing for a good amount of Richards wins? Didn't Lee and Johnson each have 50 wins as a driver( I could be wrong)?

For me Tim Flock got me into NASCAR, then Fireball, then Ned, then David and I enjoyed Bobby Allison, Cayle Yarborough and so on.

Lee Petty had 54 wins to Junior Johnson's 50.

You make a great point, swaim, about Junior bringing RJ Reynolds to the sport. Junior brought Lowe's in as a sponsor to his #11 car in his last season as an owner in 95. Busch sponsored Cale's car in 1979 and 1980, and I have to think that sponsorship got them into sponsoring the Busch series that started in 1982. Story also has it, whether true or not, that Junior had a big part to play in getting Dale Earnhardt to drive for Richard Childress.
