I watched the Game tonight between Alabama and Who
I guess Bama was still recovering from the pounding my Gators gave em. LOL
I would say the Gators will beat Oklahoma by 10.at least.

All season, Alabama has been lucky in one respect: very few significant injuries.

Their thin offensive line, that had held up well, finally bit the dust. One injury plus one idiot equals a Utah rout.

And OU is not going to score 62 on Florida.

 

Anybody remember the Merle Haggard song, "I'm an Okie from Oklahoma"? Ed you need to do some research into football. The SEC rules and on top of the SEC stands the old Gator from Gainesville.

Back in 1975 there were three Selmon brothers on the front line of the Oklahoma Defense. One of them could not tell if the the Quarter Back had the ball or the Half back. He picked them both up (evidently both were hanging on the ball at this time) and was running toward his own goal. The Line Judge made him put them back down.

Somehow no matter from what angle I try to approach this, I keep on coming up with "13" reasons why the UUUs (That's the University of Utah Utes, for those who may not be especially skilled with acronyms. ) should be the national champions, and exactly "0" reasons to vote against them for this.

And I keep finding anywhere from "1" to "5" reasons to not vote for any other

Hmmm! Let's see - uh - 13-0 = National Champions. Sure sounds right to me.

My gut is that Florida wins pretty handily.

My gut is also that there are some idiots who will vote for Texas as #1, in spite of the fact that they lost to Texas Tech and barely beat a mediocre OSU team with a last second drive aided by what appeared to be a generous spot on 4 and 3, apparently spotted by an official on the opposite side of the field who changed the original spot. Did anyone here hear more about that?

I believe you have listed the schedule, and results accurately, although I think the comment about Alabama is ridiculous.

Utah gave Alabama an old-fashioned country whipping, from the opening kick-off to the final gun. (Incidentally, one might suggest that Alabama should not have been even remotely surprised at the manner in which Utah played, considering they had just seen the same basic approach when the Tide proceeded to wash over the Gators in the SEC championship game, or is my memory failing on that one? Yeah, come to think of it, Gators actually do live in water and can swim, can't they?? ) Same basic approach; Same basic result, as I see it, anyway. And I wanted to see Ala. play for the BCS crown, simply because, they were undefeated, prior to the Fla. game.

I fully admit being more than just a little bit partial to that "0" number in the "L" column, on the record, and I made some similar comments about Boise State, two years ago.

My point is, the Utes have done everything that was asked, and even played on a field that was sloped against them, from the outset. Were it not for a recent change of the guidelines, Utah would have not even played in any BCS Bowl Game, for a few very simple reasons, regardless of their ability and poll-ranking, since the WAC is not a part of the BCS (Or is that the BS-C? ).

I'll list just a few of those 'reasons' for you.

In addition to those I just mentioned, there is the little minor thingie that only 6 Conferences (and Notre Dame ) have any guaranteed access to the BCS, to begin with, with automatic spots for 9 of the 10 slots in the series.

Regardless of the outcome of any games, it is ridiculous that Cincinnati vs. Va Tech was in, while Texas Tech, TCU, and Boise State were all outside, only because (A.) they were from the "wrong" Conferences of the WAC, MWC, MAC, C-USA, or Sun Belt, or (B.) had the misfortune (Tx Tch) to be the third wheel in what was arguably the strongest division of the strongest Conference overall (Big-12 So.), and were left out in the cold, after TX and OK got in. (It is also ridiculous that TX, after beating OK did not play in the Big 12 Championship, while OK did, as well, but that is another thread.) However, that is still the way the system works, and I have no great problem with that part. I don't even have a great problem with the 'requirement' that the Coaches are 'required' to name the winner of FL vs. OK as the titular national champion, even. The AP and Harris polls are another matter, for they are not required to give credence to the sham. One thing that could help alleviate this farce, is the obvious National playoff, no?

Actually I do not think so, for one simply moves the 'high-jump bar' to a different location in the gym. And anything remotely resembling a fair playoff system would take several additional weeks (which ain't gonna' happen) of College Football, plus wipe out all the Bowl games, as we have known them, even were one to attempt to incorporate them into the play-off System.

[OK, here are the first round-draws. Florida- you play in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise;
Oklahoma- your game is the International Bowl in Toronto;
Penn State- the Sun Bowl in El Paso;
USC - you drew the New LA Bowl in the Coliseum;
Alabama, you play in the GMAC in Mobile (provided GM doesn't first go bankrupt);
and Texas, unfortunately you got stuck with the Hawaii Bowl!]

One thing I would like to see is the restoration of the Cotton Bowl to the BCS stature, thus giving 12 slots, in place of 10 (including one more slot not 'automatically' guaranteed to the BCS conferences), and that would help a small amount, at least in most years. However, there simply is no realistic perfect solution, IMO.

P.S. Bulletin Board 'trash talk' fodder putting down FLA and Tim Tebow, is probably not really all that great an idea when Urban Meyer, Tim Tebow, and the UF football team can read it, IMO. Go Gators.

 

It makes more sense to construe your opponent as one of the top teams in the country BEFORE THE GAME.

If you loose, it still makes sense to construe your opponent as the top team in the country. You got beat ONLY by the best.

So college team trash talk automatically eliminates one from the pros. :tonofbricks:

 

I'm going to stick with my 'theories' I stated in the SEC Rules! [:laugh: ] thread. Basically they were:

1) Layoffs too long
2) Unbalanced focus
3) Excitement or disappoint
4) Individual awards

#1 was equal-- both teams last played in their conference championship games on the same day. The focus has to favor Florida-- that is, for all I know about. Oklahoma had to travel further, they've probably been playing in the sand, making out with their groupies that made the trip, et al. Florida has been doing some of that same stuff, but it's not such novelty for them; being closer, living in the more cosmopolite state. The excitement of being there is the same, but Florida did have to work harder late in the season. OU won with such ease that it's hard to think they're not "chesty" at this stage and can be taken by surprise-- consider Nebraska in '83, OU in '87, or better, OU in 2004. It is not going to be nearly as easy to run up those points against UF as it was against their Big 12 opposition; especially with the layoff to disupt the timing, which we could see they got down more pat each week as the season concluded. Defensively, OU's strength is up front, so they won't be beat by a power running game, but UF has a complex passing game with a running QB, and that's just the type that can exploit the weaknesses (think Texas). And while we haven't heard a lot about Bradford and those fantastic linemen doing much speaking and traveling and having all kinds of perks handed to them, that has surely been happening to some level. And the awards and the million$ about to come in has them getting plenty of attention-- agents, groupies, scouts... And this probably favors Florida by small margin, as Tebow and company have been getting their share, too.

So if I have left any doubt, I do favor Florida in the game. I think they will jump on OU early, making them doubters and will control the game until late in the 3rd quarter. Then OU will stage a comeback, having readjusted their timing and getting past the periphery. But Florida's quick defense will cause it to be short. Final score 38-33.

 

As a big 12 guy I should say ou by 10. But I am a Longhorn so I say Go GATORS!!!!!! Florida by 10
