Two Cities Nazareth and Bethlehem.

They are no longer Christian towns.

In the 80’s both cities were predominately Christian. Well at least they were not predominately Moslem. They were made up mostly of Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic. Many are saying that terrorism doesn’t pay but when you see what has happened to these two cities it becomes obvious that it has for Arafat and the Islamic world in general.

Bethlehem in the late 80’s was still over 85% Christian, but today it is around 85% Moslem. That is a complete turnaround in 20 years. I remember when it began and the Moslems started moving in from Hebron and begin offering to buy property for much more than it was worth. A Christian Arab friend of ours whose family lived in Bet Sahur (next to Bethlehem) who had a shop in Bethlehem was offered three times what the shop was really worth, but wouldn’t sell. As a result they came under constant attack by the Moslems who had moved in next door. Over the past 3 years of this Intafada (war) we have been unable to contact this family, we think they have been forced to convert to Islam or somehow were able to leave the country like so many others.

Other Arab Christians we know in Bethlehem, Bet Sahur and Bet Jalla (all three very close together) have been forced to allow their kids to go out and throw rocks at the IDF and some have been killed as a result. The Christian men dare not allow their wives or daughters to go shopping at the local market unescorted for fear of them being raped by the "Palestinian" Police or other Moslem men. Even when the men go with them it is common place for them to be harassed or beaten themselves. But this is not a fear only for Christian families, in Jericho we have known others who are Moslems but not so religious, and because their wives don’t wear the proper Moslem clothing they too are often attached by the "Palestinian" police and Arafat’s military.

Yesterday when the IDF pulled out of Bethlehem giving it to Arafat, Sharon not only rewarded Arafat for his terrorism, but he further turned their backs on the Christian population there.

At some point one has to ask, what is the price of peace? If this question is asked to any Arab in the region they have but one answer, "the total destruction of Israel"....

"Any" Arab? There is a term for saying something like that. It is bigotry. I sincerely doubt that even most Arabs fall into that group. Whomever you are quoting should not be listened to.

The extremists on all sides of this conflict, whether they call themselves Christians, Muslims, or Jews, are a disgrace to the human race. It is especially odious for those who claim to follow the Prince of Peace to engage in racial bigotry.

Not so much bigotry as hyperbole. golden uses the word Arab twice before in the segment SheEagle quoted both times referring to people he is friendly with.

That the 2 cities were at least nominally christian for so many years, may it be relavent that the military establishment of the nation of Israel and the almost blind support from the USA, inclubing many Christians, is what has stirred up the persecution of christians in the palitinian places?

Ken, you are showing your Western mentality. For people in that region of the world, even Arabs commonly quantify their kinship, origins, clans, tribes, etc. Distinctions are even made among different sects of Muslims. And as noted, the author of the piece even calls Arabs who are Christians, Christian Arabs. The Eastern / Mid-Eastern mindset is different from ours. You are, as they say down South, "pickin."

Since the UN created the State of Israel, Bethlehem has never belonged to Israel. Isreilis have at times attempted to establish a presence in Bethlehem through the building of settlements. It has not at any time been Christian, or been under Christian control.
