Utah State did not deserve to get into the tournament. They play in the 18th ranked conference (Big West) in the nation and where only the co-champ, UTEP plays in the WAC which is ranked 10th, but also was the co-champ. Utah State lost in their tournament to Cal-State Northrigde in the second round after getting a buy in the first round. UTEP lost in the championship game of the WAC tournament to conference co-champ Nevada. UTEP played a tougher schedule and that is why they are in.

Of note, Utah State knows it is in a really weak conference, that is why starting in 2005 they are moving to play in the WAC!

I would have also asked "who do you think will be the 'Cinderella team' in this year's tournament" but I didn't want to list every possible lower-seeded team. There are several of them that have a chance to sneak into the Sweet 16.

There are some very interesting potential 2nd round games this year for the #1 seeds: UAB or Washington against Kentucky, Charlotte or Texas Tech against St. Joseph's, Duke against Arizona, and even Stanford against Alabama or Southern Illinois are not "easy wins". Of course this time of year there are no more "easy wins".

I would love to see the Tarheels win in a 3rd meeting with the Blue Devils, but I don't see them making it past Air Force, texas, and Mississippi State all in a row to get to Duke.

Also, I thought it was interesting that the head of the selection committee said that they weren't able to take into consideration Oklahoma State's win in the Big 12 Tournament or Wisconsin's win in the Big 10 Tournament because they were too late in the day. Both of them might have moved up a little if those wins were figured in. I would suggest either having those games earlier in the day or the selection show later next year so they can consider all the games before finalizing their seeds.

I putting UNC to take Air Force, Texas, and Mississippi State. They have a way of making things happen in the tourney.

I have UNC to win those games as well. I think the ACC will make a very good showing this year.

I have always said that any NCAA "bubble team" that loses their first round game in the NIT proves that they didn't deserve to go to the Big Dance. Several of those teams did lose already in the NIT first round already including: Utah State, LSU, Georgia, Colorado, and Missouri. Florida State, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma all survived the first round last night.

The real "madness" begins today with the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I sure wish I didn't have to work today and Friday. :(

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell Mark congratulations on his Iowa State Cyclones beating Georgia last night 82-74 in the NIT 1st round. [IMG] It looks like they play Florida State next and my Sooners will play Michigan next.
