Jesus is trying to prepare his followers for the change and persecution that will come after his departure.

 

From Luke 19:45 thru 23:56 we see Jesus making his final offer to the Jews as King to Israel, their rejection of him as their Messiah, and his sacrifice. The passages you reference are troubling -- but Jesus is telling them that dangerous times are coming, as Mexdef points out. Read the above scriptures en toto to get a better idea of the context. Three years after the departure of Jesus, we find Saul becoming Paul and the beginning of the ministry to the Gentiles and to those among the Jews who would believe. The promised Kingdom, with Jesus as King of Israel, was postponed until after the Great Tribulation, the Second Coming, and the Battle of Armegeddon. The promised Kingdom begins after Armegeddon with the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth. The saints who were caught up in the Rapture of the Church, prior to the Great Tribulation, are in Heaven, and so shall they ever be, hallelujah!
