Never ending discussion-Part V

Between Jan and I - we have four SLRs plus a point and shoot and a polaroid that we do not use any more.

We take our photography quite seriously - at least we have the equipment to do so. Its one hobby that we enjoy together. You know - the family that takes pictures together -- stays together.

Its great fun to take pictures of the grandchildren. For the last year I have been taking photos of the Amish in our area.

I have an obsesive/compulsive personality - so I/we have gone overboard on this photo equipment.

Do you enjoy photography?

 

I like taking pictures of anything that catches my fancy.

Currently I have been taking photos of the work of Amish craftsmen (kitchen cubboards, beds, folding baskets, etc.) The Amish do not like their pictures taken - but they sure like to look at photos of other Amish to see if they can identify the people in the pictures.

Last week I shot a roll on five buffalo that I found in the vicinity of Troupsburg, NY.

You are probably asking, "Where in the world is Troupsburg, NY?" Well, if you can find Canisteo, my home town, then go about 21 miles south and you'll find Troupsburg. It's a small town that sits on the New York/Pennsylvania Border. I've been working here for almost a year now - trying to install a plastic (FRP - Fiber Reinforced Polymar) bridge. Someday - maybe we'll get this thing done - but I've quit holding my breath. While I like the color blue (poll forum) - it doesn't look good on me as a skin color!!!

People, things, the Amish (yes, they're also people), animals, etc. - I just like taking pictures. I'm trying to get good at it.

My advice - take lots of photos - if I get two or three good ones out of a roll of 24 - I consider that I've done a good job.

It's raining here and chilly - what's the weather where you are?

 

It is raining and chilly here in England too. But we really need the rain, and I don't mind too much as long as it doesn't get too cold.


when did you last go to the cinema?

 

It has been years. I just do not feel comfortable going to a movie theatre. I guess its the old red socks syndrome. If you're told enough times that it's a sin to wear red socks - when you finally figure out the truth about red socks - it's still uncomfortable putting the things on.

It's May 2nd, would you rather is snow a little or just rain hard all day?

 

I'm done with snow. A nice hard rain might be nice, though. It's a little overcast here, but it was yesterday, too, and nothing came of it, so I'm not holding my breath. But if it's going to rain today or tomorrow, I'd rather it be today - my friend is having a housewarming party on Saturday!

Q: Are you a messie or a cleanie?

 

I have a split personality on this one.

I hate to get dirty - but it doesn't bother me a whole lot if stuff around me is dirty.

I guess I'm weird - my children would probably agree with that!

How come the clock on the Board doesn't agree with any other clock I've ever seen?

(For instance - the time of this post is 1:52 PM - the computer I'm on is 1:32 PM and my watch is 1:35PM.)

 

Messie or cleanie? I'm kind of evolving. I used to be a messie,who loved things to be clean but had a hard time keeping them that way. I had the best of intentions, but things would just spiral out of control!

I've noticed as I've gotten older that I'm becoming more of a cleanie. Not only do I like things to be clean and neat, but I seem to be having more success at keeping them that way. I seem to be able to rein things in better when they start getting out of control.

Of course,it helps that there are only three of us living here now,and my youngest who is still at home is 16. Let's face it,homes have a tendency to get messier when you have little kids...plus,more time is devoted to actually raising them than cleaning up after them (or at least that was often the case for me.)

Anyway,I've finally arrived at my own housecleaning style and methods that work for me.

I tend to do a big cleaning on Saturdays and try to more or less maintain it through the week.

I do love a neat,clean home...it's so much more pleasant and welcoming.

Right now the biggest deterrent to cleanliness in my house is my dog. She's a German Shepherd,and she's shedding like there's no tomorrow. My overworked vacuum is having a hard time keeping up with all the dog hair!

--Now my question. What's your favorite kind of dog?

 

My favorite dog would be someone else's dog. We have six cats - have the same problem as Cindy with cat hair.

In all fairness - we once had five dogs at one time - three poms - a poodle - and a schnouzer.

Still would like this question answered - posting time will be different by a few minutes now - see above post.

I dunno, but it's odd. I used to see the timestamp on the newest post in a forum and think, "Oh, wow - a new post!" because it was 10 or 12 minutes ahead of what all my clocks say, but then I'd open it up and find I'd already read it.

So, now I know that if, right now, I were to see 2:40 on a timestamp, it'd be an old post.

Okay, wow! My computer's clock, the clock on my wall and my cell phone were all within a minute or two of each other (2:40, give or take), and my last post posted at 3:00!

As I type, I have a hot plate of tortellini beside me, tossed in a light parmesan sauce, with bacon, tomato and mushrooms. Unless, of course, you meant bood, in which case, I have no idea.

Okay, now that's funny! I read it as "food" and it was supposed to be "book." Oh well. Last book I bought was "Sexual Personae" by Camille Paglia.

Rob and I saw Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew at Stratford-upon-Avon about a month ago. It was a lovely evening out. Now we are waiting for A Midsummer Night's Dream (my favourite) later in the year I think. Just seen in the Radio Times that Twelth Night is on tv on Bank Holiday Monday.

What is your favourite piece of classical music?

 

Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique, and I'm partial to the fifth movement.
