I like everything about the new Board format, even the new emoticons are superb. The only problem I have is, there seem to be members giving negative emoticons without JUSTFYING why they awarded a particular emoticon!

I think that if a person wants to give another member a negative emoticon, fine! Nevertheless, at least have the guts to post a reply with your emoticon, explaining why you are giving it a DUMB, or disagree, or thumbs down! Without an explanation, how does the person being cxriticized know what to address or how to respond? The way I see it, it is more of a "Gotcha" tool Mad and that really goes against WJWD!

Now, I was guilty of just that very thing, not the gotcha use of an emoticon, but awarding one without explaining why! I will honestly do my best to provide an explanation when I award a negative emoticon, and I would appreciate the same respectful response!!!! Notworthy

I would love to know how others feel about this new tool,
and how it is being used, or maybe, MISUSED?

It is my opinion that this new rating system, while it has potential and can be tons of fun, also has the potential to make this board more of a clique, and should that happen, it would be a sad thing for all those who are here to have fellowship with others while discussing their differences!

You didn't have to explain why you gave me a dumb rating. Same as you don't have to explain why you put me on your ignore list and continued to read my posts and rate them negatively afterward. My opinion on certain things is different than your's and you don't like it.

I like this new rating system precisely for the same reason RD2 is questioning it .We get to see who is rating our posts and what ratings they are giving us. I can see where this system would be a concern for those who would rather remain anonymous when they give people negative ratings for petty reasons.

I'm guessing that if RD2 could rate all my posts "dumb" without me knowing it this system wouldn't be a concern of his at all.

    Agree wholeheartedly.

Systems like this can distract people and it can become a matter of earning these rewards becomes more important than the discussions themselves. That was one of the good things about the old Board, if someone said something another liked, they had to comment on it to show that approval. It is all too easy to get a like for saying things you know others will like, and that can be disruptive to discussion.

I tried to get a few people to address the reason for the "dumbs" but only one person actually responded. One person actually stalked my posts and "dumbed" everything I did. And refused to say why (though I already knew why, lol).

The likes can be convenient, where we can like something and show the poster we like it without having to get involved in the conversation, but perhaps this might be a little bit like texting, where the interaction can be a little impersonal, and something is, I think, lost.

    God bless.

I like the system. I generally use the "Like" or "agree" buttons with the exception of using the "dumb" icon for several posts that were, well, really DUMB! :)

I am not sure what kind of explanation RD2 is asking for. I like a post because I like it. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but, for the most part, I like it and/or how it was stated.

I dislike a post for much the same reasons although, to the best of my knowledge I have not used that particular icon.

I use the agree icon when I agree. Seems pretty self-explanatory to me.

I use the disagree icon for much the same reason.

I have used the funny icon once for a post that was so dripping with satire that I literally laughed out loud at the post.

I used the informative icon once when I found a post to be very informative.

Seems to me to be working quite well. :)

I really like all the icons, though I haven't figured out what they're all for...yet.

One of the things I disliked about the old format was that people would quote a 2,000 word post in full, only to add a thumbs up or a pike of bricks. Good night, did that ever add to the length of a thread.

This way, people can simply attach their two cents to a post, rather than drag out the thread by having the same post quoted a half dozen times.

I also like the minimal view of a quote, with the option to expand the quote to view it

Isn't that the truth? It burned me when someone would quote lengthly posts only to add nothing of consequence.

My posts are usually not very long --but along came some individual to say something completely irrelevant.
    Yes indeed times two.

It is pretty obvious you used the "Dumb" button simply because of your dislike of another member...me.

There were several posts that had no justification for being called dumb, even if one has an attitude.

I would probably guess several of those posts were not even read, and the fact that you were stalking due to inability to actually discuss what was in view is what comes across.

This is an abuse of the system, and just as it was mentioned that the accused should be able to confront their accuser is removed when people abuse it.

    Here was a dumbeb post:

You say in this post what you use the system for, but I have still received no explanation for the stalking, though...that is evident in itself.

So I would simply state that if one is going to dumb someone else's posts, at least have the gumption to explain why.

To do otherwise violates Christian as well as American principles.

    God bless.

Man, suck it up. It is what it is. If someone thinks what you wrote is dumb, that's their opinion. There really is no difference than someone telling you in writing before that a post was dumb, unneeded, redundant or just flat out stupid.

Me thinks that the veil of the illusion has been lifted from your eyes with that dumb emoticon because try as hard as you do to brown nose and be a part of the "in crowd", that dumb emoticon destroys your illusion.Roflmao

You get a gold star for this.

Again, some folks like to believe they are "in". The rating system destroys that illusion and shows exactly what the folks they thought they were in agreement with feels about them and their posts.Roflmao

I EXPECT a lot of dumbs or disagrees because that's the same sentiments folks expressed before this system. I think someone is just shocked that folks that he thought he was ( in the vernacular of the young folks) "down with", that he actually isn't. And everyone else gets to see this too.

Pathetic is hard to change, but Jesus loves you just the same. And so do all us other "brown nosers!"

BTW - your perpetually moving cross is a perfect fit for your witness to others.

Mr "T" said something that is applicable to your type of Christianity and what I feel towards you brother ..... " I pity the fool!" Your life must be a lonely one. You have my prayers and sincere compassion.

RD2 rated a response of mine to one of his posts about Trump being on SNL as "Old".

I wonder if he meant "Grow Up" by giving me that rating?

Well, he does call people 'son' a lot. ☺

I can only assume he *likes* the new system.

The real problem with a forum such as this whether you've got a "Like or a Dislike" tab is that someone can post (ANYTHING) and here comes the critics.

"No, youse wrong cuz' it says right here..., followed with a verse." Or, "See, I don't believe that...." Often followed with some sort of attempt at belittling, "cuz' I be right and you be ignorant."

I really don't believe our Lord is restricted specifically to what anyone of us thinks and that He can in fact appear to someone differently than to another. For sure, His Word is a Living Word and as such, many scripture references can have many applications. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's wrong.
