Hello to all my Brothers and Sisters from sunny California.
I have been reading alot here the last few days (while waiting for activation.....Lord grant me patience) and there is alot of good info here. Most of it is over my head right now, being new to the Word.
I'm sure my story is one you have heard before. I was the guy who didnt want any religion, didnt need it, didnt know any better. I had attended church a little as a young kid, but not by choice. As an adult, I had been urged to attend church by my grandparents and always declined. I figured I knew (or thought I knew) who Jesus was, and that was enough for me. I was the one to roll my eyes when they prayed before meals and such. I didnt have time for such nonsense.
Then, in April of this year, everything changed. My Grandmother passed away. I'll never forget that day, sitting in her house with everyone crying and carrying on. While sitting there, I happen to notice her Bible sitting next to me on the couch. Not sure why, but I picked it up and started thumbing through it. I wasnt reading many verses, I was reading the notes she had written in the margins mostly. The more I read, the more peace I found. I happened to read John 3-16:17 (which she had hi-lighted) and those verses for some reason hit me really hard that day.
After her funeral, Gramps tried to give me her bible, which I declined. As much as I would have loved to have had it, I felt he should keep it for awhile at least. I did get my own, however and began attending church with him. My wife and I were both saved in May. In the last 6 months or so, I have learned how little i knew (and still need to learn) about Christ. I really had no clue at all about Him.
Gramps likes to say that Grandma was constantly praying for her family to attend the church. Every night this is what she prayed for. God granted her prayer, as now there are at least 20 of her family sitting in those pews on sundays and attending bible study and other church functions.
I believe this is why she was called up, to get the attention of the rest of us. The Lord used her as he saw fit, to get her family on His path.
