Hello,

I have recently joined BB though I have been a long time viewer and thought I should post an introduction.

I'm a Baptist and live in Scotland. I'm currently reading several books on the different perspectives of Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism, so will likely post questions pertaining to this.

looking forward to being part of the forum.

If you want a good explanation of dispensationalism pick up dispensationalism by Charles Ryrie.
In his book he adddresses the other positions you are researching as well.

He will give you a good understanding of dispensationalism whether or not you accept dispenatiobalism.

Thanks for recommendation. I have 'Progressive Dispensationalism' by Bock and Blaising will look into it if needing further info.

That's the 1965 original. I have a well worn copy in hardcover.

There was a revision done in 2007, titled Dispensationalism.

what/how much was added to the new edition? asking since the price between them is significant

cheers

I am afraid that I can't answer your question. I haven't purchased the latest edition, and tried googling up a good review that outlined the changes, but came up with nothing.

I can't compare the two books presently (I'll be away from my library for a few days)
But if memory serves me right they are two different books.
The newer one addresses the more modern advances in dispensationalism such as Progressive Dispensationalism which Ryrie looked at quite critically (although not very objectively IMHO).

Defining dispensationalism (and Covenant theology for that matter) is a bit like shooting at a target with one arm tied behind you back while blindfolded. Some big ideas with a multitude of variations.
