    Hello brothers and sisters,

My name is Joe, and I live in southern Michigan. I'm a retired grocery store executive, who has been saved over 30 years.

Some of my interests are doctrine and discussing different Bible versions.

Looking forward to learning a lot and making new friends.

    Hello Joe.

Welcome to Baptist Board. You should find a lot of lively discussions on doctrine here. You could also search through the past posts and find a lot of discussions. WARNING: The Calvinism vs. Arminianism forum is not for the faint of heart.

There is a forum dedicated to Bible translations which has hot streaks of activity, mostly when a KJV Only person comes storming in here and condemns everyone.

I grew up using/memorizing the KJV. I transitioned to the NKJV in my 30's. In the past 5 years or so I mostly read the NIV (that's Not Inspired Version for KJV Onlyists. HA!). My church recently switched to the ESV after years with the NIV. The ESV is OK, but I like the NIV better, so when they read scripture I'm following along in my NIV.

When I quote scripture here I mostly use the NKJV. It retains the familiar sound of the KJV but without the Olde English words.

A side question, is the NIV 1984 edition or the 62011? The ESV is generally better I think. I prefer the KJV, but the NKJV over the ESV.

I have the print edition of the 1984 NIV Study Bible, but when in church I use my phone and the You Version app, so whatever edition they use is what I read.
