New York subway threat was a hoax, security sources admit

    The alleged terror threat that sparked a big security alert on New York's trains and subway last week turned out to be a hoax concocted by an unreliable US informant in Iraq, it emerged yesterday.

    Uniformed and undercover police descended on the city's subway system on Friday after what was described as a "specific threat" that a terror cell was planning to explode bombs concealed in pushchairs, suitcases and rucksacks. At one point a section of Penn Station was sealed off as security staff wearing chemical hazard suits investigated a "soupy green substance" found in a Pepsi bottle. It turned out be a cleaning substance.

    But security sources yesterday told CNN that an informant in Iraq had admitted giving false information. Law enforcement officials said last week that the person who passed along the New York tip also gave information which led to the arrests of three al-Qaida suspects in Musayyib, south of Baghdad, said to have links to the alleged plot.

    But yesterday government sources said the three men had been interviewed and two underwent lie detector tests showing they knew nothing about such a plan.

    The response was pretty strong without being horribly disruptive.

    It pushed Bloomberg's poll numbers up. Rightly so, imnsho.

    I agree. NY mobilized preventative measures in short order. When it was learned that the information was false, those measures were eventually lifted.

    What really amuses me is the folks who are complaining that NY mobilized in the first place. Had the threat been real, or had a threat been carried out, I'm sure those same people would not be complaining.

    It is, in fact, our sinful nature to find fault and place blame wherever we can. Why? Because it's easy to do, and difficult to refute. One need not look too hard to find people who do this on a regular basis. We must first and foremost as Christian overcome our sinful nature.

    On a local note, I was amused that the city of Los Angeles likewise mobilized forces to prevent a terrorist attack on LA.s subway system. I'm somewhat at a loss as to why. A terrorist, you would thin, will seek a target that has a high degree of population. The LA subway does not in any way qualify. The joke is: if you want some peace and quiet, ride the subway in LA.

    I don't know if this is true or not, but it makes complete tacticle sense. When I was in the Army, It was basic tactics to probe the enemy's defenses before planning how to attack them.

    You were in the Army, but they couldn't teach you how to spell tactical? Seriously, I thank you for your service to the Country.

    Well, If I take my time, my spelling improves. I'm a little dyslexic is seems. I was diagnosed in elementary school. But I do have a Doctorate, Magna Cum Laude. How do you like them apples?
