I hope and pray this is the first of many more victories for "civil disobedience" as CNN puts it.
I hope this nation sees an onslaught of protests as a result. Even more, I hope God changes peoples hearts regarding the sanctity of life.

    From:
    http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/02/26/abortion.protests/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a victory for civil disobedience, the Supreme Court Wednesday ruled anti-abortion protesters cannot be prosecuted simply for blocking clinic doors and other disruptive behavior.

The ruling applies to variety of political and ideological protests, and its outcome was supported by many free-speech advocates, including some supporting abortion rights groups.

All I can say is Praise the Lord! We are presently activly engaged in preaching and practicing our faith outside aborticides and US Gov't and State office buildings as a church. I thank the Lord for this, but "Rico" was practiced in the past by all Gov't's who were in adulterous relationships with apostate churches. This meant the imprisonment and death of christians since the first century. Read the book "Martyr's Mirror" for more information. We would not have stopped our fight just because we "might" go to jail. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

    Thanks -----Bart

Though I agree that the old stand-bys used for prosecuting protestors (racketeering and extortion) were used inappropriately, I wonder whatever happened to private property? Based on what I read, it doesn't seem that this ruling will eliminate arrests for blocking entrance or chaining people to the doors, just that the charges won't be the same. That may mean shorter sentences (if any), but it doesn't give license for a free-for-all.

That said, civil disobedience is a large part of our nation's history, and I generally commend people who are willing to sacrifice their freedom for the sake of others. Just be willing to do the appropriate time for the crime.

Personal sacrifice from Christians is what will win the war on abortion. Most Christians when asked how they feel about killing the unborn are outraged at the thought, but unfortunately many of these same Christians are not willing to take any of the burden upon themselves or accept any personal inconvenience to see it stopped. I'd hate to see the war against abortion continue on in a manner that says "just give us victory." Believers must be willing to pay a price in order to see results sometimes.

    The Bible teaches:

    Psalm 35:13
Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered,

    Daniel 9:3
So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.

    Matthew 17 (KJ)
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

I agree. However, there are more ways for Christians to pay the price or sacrifice than protesting.

There is no abortion clinic in our town; but I give of my time to volunteer in the "Crisis Pregnancy Center".

Some Senior Saints I know cannot even go out to do that; but they can pray, sign petitions, write their congressmen, etc.

The object is for us to be "all of one accord".

God bless you all. There are many ways to share Christ's love for the sake of the unborn, from protest to civil disobedience to politics to working with a crisis pregnancy center to prayer...on and on. Keep it up!!

    Penn Jim,
You and I are 90%ers as far I can see and I always appreciate the things you post. Let me say this and I hope I do not sound too big for my britches: There is a definite difference between protesting and practicing your faith. When I am out there on the street I do not protest, for protesting is always limited by the beaurorats and subject to licensure. I am preaching the gospel. John 3:16 says "For God so loved" I can preach that right into the face of every diabolical liberal "butch" female who comes out to escort and I can preach that to every mother who is on her way to murdering her baby. Practicing our Faith is a God given right and cannot be abridged. It has in the past and will be in the future, we must realize the value and count the cost.

    Thanks -----Bart

Ohh boy, to be honest the thought of pro-lifers blocking doorways and such to prevent ladies from entering is just wrong. Those ladies have the legal right to enter even if we (including myself)disagrees with the choice they are making. I am pregnant for the third time, the second child I miscarried but thank Jesus this child seems to be perfectly healthy so I definitely do not agree with abortion but I also do not agree with forceable actions to stop the abortions from taking place. Keep in mind, if the women can't abort thier child in the clinic, they will go anywhere else to do so.

I think we have a right to...maybe not in the eyes of some, but I bet if the unborn child could speak, they would beg, plead, cry, and scream for someone to intervene before they face a horrific death...

Standing in front of a door is not violent. Pushing someone out of the way is... Actually, it would be assault or battery, or possibly both.

I don't really see this decision as a victory for the pro-lifers any more than it is a defeat for the pro-choicers. FACE (the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act) is, as far as I know, still in effect. The only difference is that now RICO can't be used in prosecuting, which was always ridiculous.

This decision, though originally about abortion protestors, has more to do with defining property than anything. Basically, the Court said that a business's trade is not property, so restricting their business activities is not considered theft. It can be applied to far more situations than abortion protestors. Using this decision, a group could protest your church to the point that people turned away, but as long as they didn't damage your property, or make threats, you couldn't touch them legally.

Would some on here have also been opposed to the sit-ins by black people during the civil rights movement of the 60's? That is exactly the same thing as is happening here. It is a non-violent way for people to express their contempt for the current system of justice that allows for the slaughter of thousands of innocent children everyday!

John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother's womb, so to tell me that there is no life until birth is foolishness. The scriptures tell me there is.

If these children had already been born, say a few hours or days old, and then they were taken to a "clinic" to be discarded like trash, would you still be against us blockading doors to prevent it? We prosecute women if they "dump" there babies upon giving birth, but we allow those same women to "dump" those same babies just hours, weeks, and even while they are being born. That is a choice? Well, I have the choice to murder people on the street, but there are consequences for those actions. Why are there none for murdering and innocent, defenseless child?

Anyone who is for this, in my book (the Bible), can not truly call themselves a Christian.

If these ladies were beating a two-year-old to death, would you disagree with "forceable actions" to prevent the death from taking place?

I commend anyone who is willing to make a stand against abotion.

Anyone who has any doubts over the issue should visit

This is an excellent site which uncovers the true horrors of abortion. I would warn you though that it is not for the feint hearted.

Well done to the protesters, keep up the good work.

    Bart,

Thanks for the kind words. I pray that your preaching will fall on receptive ears.

I think if you look over the posts here, it becomes apparent that some do not yet really understand what abortion is.

We all need to be more vocal about abortion! As Christian's and Baptists!

I've had people say to me "If you don't believe in abortion then adopt an unwanted child" to which I can reply... "I did!".

    Diane

p.s. Also, as Christians we should be very careful of the wording we use when talking about illegitimate children. A deacon in a previous church pointed out a family with an unmarried daughter. He called her baby a 'bastard child'.... because she didn't marry the father. I never said anything to him..... but his condemnation would also fit my youngest son (our grandson that we adopted as our own son). I don't think he ever realized what he had said and we remain close friends today.
