I saw this in the Atlanta Journal. I also saw a commercial for a new t.v. show called (and I apologize in advance to our homosexual members but this can be found at the below link) "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" where 5 homosexuals take a 'straight' guy and do a makeover on his hair, clothes, etc. to make him more attractive.

The Metrosexual is a new term for straight guys who are spending a lot of time and money trying to be stylish....... but in my opinion look silly. Think male models with messy hair, unbuttoned shirt sleeves, etc.

THIS is what I was going for when I posted asking about effeminate men in the fundamental forum. This isn't men acting like sissies by the way, it's men acting like women. Women aren't sissies Joseph. We're...girly. LOL

So what is wrong with a "metrosexual?" Perhaps only the name! It is NOT in any way shape or form a "sin" or wrong for a man to be stylish and groomed. In fact, it is a GIFT for a man to be stylish and groomed. Honestly, who is more stylish: a guy with ordinary cowboy boots OR a guy with Lucchese Alligator cowboy boots? The answer is obvious.

Don't you guys go to the barber for a haircut? Why? Because you want to be groomed! So what is wrong with going to a hair stylist for a hair cut? Guess what! - the stylist usually (though not always) will give you a better hair cut. Is there anything wrong with trying to look as GOOD and fashionable as possible? Of course not!

What can be wrong about a man wearing a stylish suit instead of some cheap suit that hangs all over him like a bad dress? Nothing!

Men getting "manicures" is not a sin either. The most stylish men do. While I myself have always avoided a manicure, I have done so because I personally don't like "the look" on a man. However, that is a fashion decision, not a Biblical one.

We men use "facial cosmetics" all the time. I use "after shave," and "cologne" (just bought a great one called: VetiVere), and shaving cream itself is loaded with "moisturizer." Is there anything sinful about that? Of course NOT! I shave every day - so do most men.

The LORD was fashionable. His clothing was of the FINEST quality (John 19: 23) - sort of like "designer wear" of that day. Let us not forget Matt. 26: 7-10. Anything sinful about that? Some of the disciples thought so. But Jesus said; NO WAY! Is it sinful to be stylish? Paahleeze!

Some Christians need to stop being so SEXcentric. Stop flustering over a word ("metrosexual") and start staying in the WORD. Thanks. latterrain77

 

Latterain77, I don't think it's SINFUL! I think they look silly but then I'm 52 and the messy hairdo's and unbuttoned sleeves, long sleeves on sweaters, jeans made to look dirty, etc. do not appeal to me.

In fact, I reread the posts and no one mentioned sinful at all. I like for a man to look like a man and have some meat on his bones. LOL!

Honestly, I don't think they're displaying their feminine side at all. They're finally ditching that grunge guy look. It's refreshing, really. I'm so tired of men who go out looking like they've just come off a 12 hour shift because they think it looks cool.

The only reason it's considered a new thing is because, well, it's a fad for those boys who never used to care about such things, and the whole "metrosexual" thing has to do with the inane notion that if a man is well groomed, he must be gay. 'Course, the same people who think that are those who might think I'm a lesbian because I can change a tire.

 

No, I can't bypass my filter, unless I uninstall it.

After reading this thread I am glad I can't see these "men."

 

HCL, this was on the front page of the Atlanta Journal. There was NOTHING nasty or evil about what I saw, just those new clothing styles and messy hair style that is so popular today!

I hear you. Some styles can be a little "progressive" for my taste too. But overall, style is a good thing and is most effective when centered around one's own age and body type. The "trendy" look is probably more appropriate for teenagers and "20 Something's," just as a tasteful well fitted suit would be for more seasoned gentlemen. In other words, I don't see it as being "sissified" when someone takes care and attention to looking as good as he possibly can, even if that means employing experts to help out. If you've not lived in a place immersed in gay culture it probably does NOT sound too bad if you're not familiar with the overall attitude they're talking about.
It's the equivelent of the feminine movement, only opposite. When women do it they "go butch" and wear clothes, hair, everything more associated with men and act more like men, blah blah blah.
Oh well. Just another way to get men to act more like women and women to act more like men.
Here's a question for those that think it's cute or just a style trend. What will you think if you go to church and your pastor is wearing hair spray, silk clothes, has his nails painted, maybe a bit of liner to emphasize those masculine eyebrows?

Statements that describe MY style.

"Leather boots are still style for manly footwear..."

I go only to barbershops, defined as having a barber pole out front, wood paneling on the walls, at least two deer heads mounted, and lots of copies of "Field and Stream" and "The American Rifleman."

In my clothing, I like lots of colors: blue, navy blue, grey, dark grey, dark green, black, white (for dress shirts), and in flannel shirts only, red mixed with the above.

I wear wide leather belts, redwing shoes and boots, and New Balance sneakers (mainly for working out).

My wife has been trying to give me a makeover for 32 years, but has yet to change anything. Two yellow shirts remained in my closet with the tags on until I gave them away to the S.A.

But she loves me anyway. She has gotten to like this large red-headed man in a navy blue suit and Redwing Pecos boots (black, of course).

 

Oh, I do have jeans with holes and discolored patches on them...they got that way in my woodworking shop.

Seriously, I don't guess there's anything wrong with looking better. {I mean my dad's favorite thing to wear all over his clothes is car grease! EKKKKK! BEing a mechanic isn't the easiest job for staying clean!} But I will say I'd be very worried if one of my guy friends started wearing nail polish, and shopping at the same cosmetic stores I did!
THere's nothing wrong with admitting you love your mom, and looking desent, BUT it can be taken too far.
And in my opinion, there are two terms for a persons gender...MALE AND FEMALE!
The Bible says it's wrong to be effiminate{1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate , nor abusers of themselves with mankind,}.
Guys aught not act like girls. They ought to be what God created them as...MEN!
Looking presentable and allowing people to know you care about them is fine, but let's not take it too far.
