Carnell Tate is next in the Ohio State pipeline of secondary wide receivers capable of emerging as a primary target at the NFL level. Tate's height and wingspan offer a quarterback-friendly target. He extends the catch point away from his frame and plucks the ball from the air. Tate is a bouncy athlete who can climb the ladder over defenders at the catch point. - Savvy and crafty route-running profile. Tate is nuanced and detailed with his ability to separate from opposing defenders. He is an excellent vertical route salesman by pushing defensive backs with a strong vertical takeoff and stem, giving the illusion he is running a deep route. Versus off-coverage, he stems his routes with intent to manipulate and move the defender off their spot to free him space at the break point. Tate is a long strider, who eats up grass with free releases.
- Body control and ball skills to attack the football in flight. Tate can extend at the catch point with the best of them. He utilizes his whole frame and wingspan to make a play on the football that enters his zip code.
- Toughness as a perimeter blocker. Tate is not afraid to throw his frame into the action and make blocks to spring his teammates. He picks off linebackers and safeties on outside run concepts to seal the edge for the running back.
