I will just say the NFL moved in the right direction by not letting the first team that gets the ball win by a kicking a field goal. But I think that even if the first team to possess the ball scores a touchdown, the other team should still get one chance to match or exceed/win by those points before it's Sudden Death.

And there is still a question I have not found in the current rules. If the first team to possess the ball takes a long drive and kicks a field goal as time runs out in the 10 minute overtime period, does the other team still get a possession or not? Which rule takes precedence?-- that the other team must be allowed a possession if the first team kicks a field goal, or that there is a 10 minutes limit to the overtime period?

Maybe we should just go back to tie games!

Interesting question, though I suspect that the NFL has addressed it, whether by awarding an untimed possession to team 2 or (more likely, IMO) deciding that if team 2 can't get their defense off the field for 10 minutes they deserve to lose.

that's what I'm thinking but won't work for the playoffs. Just saw the Bengals upset the Titans, thought that game was going into overtime.
Can't stand how college football handles overtime - think the NFL should make them play a full quarter until a tie is broken in a playoff game to take the luck of the toss factor out.
