    As an independent fundamentalist Baptist Christian I believe the Bible to be the sole final authority in all matters of the faith and practice.

    This teaching of being begotten is nowhere to be found in the written word of God.

    Maybe I have misunderstood what you meant, but there are several references to Jesus Christ being begotten of God, for example:

    “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (Joh 1:14 NKJV)

    “"He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (Joh 3:18 NKJV)

    “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” (1Jo 4:9 NKJV)

    But, as I say, I may well have misunderstood, in which case I apologise!

    If a stranger asked you to provide a summary of your beliefs, you would say….

    What would you say?

    How would you summarize your beliefs?

    100 words or less

    The Lord Jesus existed from eternity. He was begotten when He became flesh, to redeem those who trust in Him, as you noted in the Scriptures you quoted.

    Look at the Greek. Not the same word translated. And note the phrase being cited: begotten from the Father before all ages, . . .

    That is another discussion.
    And good question.
    The question I might ask before answering that question: What would you explain to someone how to know God, and know for sure one's sins are forgiven? As so one would know for sure one would not perish?

    Post #2 & #4, Nicene Creed
    It presents what is at issue, and is not Biblical.

    That’s a curious phrase, “in all matters of the faith and practice”.

    Many years ago, when my church was developing a Statement of Faith, I insisted upon the inclusion of that phrase. Some statements use it, other's don't.
    Its use connects it directly to Biblical inerrancy, how we understand or interpret our Scriptures.

    Wayne Grudem says the term is used by some to deny inerrancy, claiming that the Scriptures only concern the concepts of faith and practice. [Wayne A. Grudem, Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine (Inter-Varsity Press; Zondervan Pub. House, 2004), 1241].

    I think he is oversensitive on the topic of inerrancy and is ignoring how we properly interpret Scripture.

    I not generally a credal Baptist (credal? is that a word?).
    But a creed is simply a short Statement of Faith or Beliefs.
    Only once in my life have I had the opportunity to witness to a non-believer where the discussion centered upon a full examination of my faith. I never knew the outcome but I can't help but feel that eventually the person came to a saving faith in Christ...the questions were so astute.

    On some Christian forms the agreement with the Nicene Creed is used as a requirement in order to be allowed on their forums as a Christian member.

    Nicene Creed Greek Text with English translation

    We believe in one God,
    the Father almighty,
    maker of heaven and earth,
    of all things visible and invisible;
    And in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
    the only begotten Son of God,
    begotten from the Father before all ages,
    light from light,
    true God from true God,
    begotten not made,
    of one substance with the Father,
    through Whom all things came into existence,
    Who because of us men and because of our salvation came down from the heavens,
    and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
    and became man,
    and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate,
    and suffered and was buried,
    and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures
    and ascended to heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father,
    and will come again with glory to judge living and dead,
    of Whose kingdom there will be no end;
    And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and life-giver,
    Who proceeds from the Father,
    Who with the Father and the Son is together worshipped and together glorified,
    Who spoke through the prophets;
    in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
    We confess one baptism to the remission of sins;
    we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

    [As to what genuine Christians believe in general, what is there to object to?]

    From the 'other' thread(s):

    "Why even mention Pontius Pilate with no mention of the real culprits?:

    22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;
    23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay: Acts 2

    "...and was crucified for us" would suffice."

    [add]

    We need some more threads on The Nicene Creed.
