Nightline Series on Young Preachers

    Last night, ABC's Nightline did a program on three young men who are vying to win a preaching contest in American Association of Christian Schools competition (AACS). Tonight, the story will conclude with the championship held at Bob Jones University. The show last night did very little evaluation or editorializing, it simply ran cuts of the sermons interspersed with interviews with the young men, their parents, and teachers.

    I watched both nights, and thought that ABC/Nightline did a good job for the most part.

    They did have one error - saying that there are 70 million evangelicals in the US. Last I heard, there are about 60 million in the SBC alone, and when you add the rest of us, there are many more than 70 million total.

    We should send them a note to thank them. It's not often we get good press.

    We watched the second night and were quite amused that ABC laid out the plan of salvation for all the nation to hear without even realizing it through their clips of each young man preaching! [​IMG] We thoroughly enjoyed it!

    I thought it was well done, but my husband thought ABC was being facetious because of how they introduced the piece, saying that these evangelicals actually believe in a literal Hell, etc. That part didn't bother me; I expect them to be cynical.

    A neat thing was that the bus that pulled up at the beginning is from my husband's parents' home church in GA. That was fun!
