NKJV Only?

Just bought a $75 Thompson Chain Reference NKJV as a sort of Birthday Present. After that investment, you'd think I'd be NKJV only too, but I still find myself reading my wife's NASB at lunchtime & before bed.

 

I like the NKJV also, but the NASB has me hooked. I have it in the NASB study Bible and the Nelson Study Bible. My Scolfield is KJV, my wife has the NIV life application Bible. I also bought one to give away, but found out while reviewing it, it is a politically correct version. So its on the back self.Theres one put out by Moody Press I want, maybe for Christmas.

 

I have copies of EVERY translation except the KJV (which I do have on computer). As for the NKJV, it is beautifully written. That being said, if one seriously studies the (never mind the Alexandrian/Byzantine text-type arguments)Old Testament, one sees that the NKJV just doesn't measure up. It is seriously flawed in many places. As far as the OT is concerned, probably the most accurate translation (IMHO)is the NRSV. To be sure, the 'gender accurate' philosophy of the NRSV is problematic. I've not used the ESV in my OT studies, but imagine that it is highly-accurate as well. Again, the NKJV is beautifully written, but I've found the OT to be flawed. Sorry.

 

The NKJV is my favorite translation and is the one I am most comfortable with since I am not convinced that the Alexandrian manuscripts are the best. Until then, I like the NKJV the best. I use the Amplified and also the NIV and occasionaly the KJV.

Just wondering where you have found flaws in the NKJV in the OT. I don't use it (I don't really like it - I like NIV), but I know someone sold on the NKJV. Would be interested in your comments.

I know what you mean about how difficult it is when everyone is using a different version.Being a Pastor must be difficult under those conditions.
I would ask your opinion of the verses of Revelations 22:18-19 and proverbs 30:5-6 they both relate to the changing of God's word.Being a layman I've been bombarded by KJVO and all the others onlies out there.I worry that God's word will eventually become scarce simply because of all the versions there are.The truest being lost among the many. After all no two version are the same. It creates confusion and we all know who likes confusion best and why.It seems that we are caught in a quagmire of not only religious differences but also bible version differences.I believe that a famine of Gods word is upon us as in Amos 8:11-12 None of us are sure without a reasonable doubt that we actually have God's inerrant word.His Word is our communication with him. What in your opinion makes man think he can improve on Gods word.I personally have problems with the NKJV in that it is not a new translation but a rewrite. I recently read where there is suppose to be some 30 mistakes in the book of Matthew alone.
With today's language the way it is we sometimes have so many different meanings for just one word. With out the body language to go along with what you are reading. It's your best guess as to what is being said. Which is why we have emotion Icons on the message board and in our emails programs
I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with questions, but those letters before your name leads me to think you may have some answers I need.

I am NKJVO when it comes to preaching and teaching.

I am ESVO and NKJVO and NASBO when it comes to study.

I base my position on Psalm 12:6-7.

 

I'm thinking about becoming NIVO because it's translation of verse 7 correctly emphasizes the fact that God is promising to protect his people, not his words.

And if anyone tries to tell me I'm questioning whether God preserves his words, I'm going to tell them they're questioning whether God preserves his people.

For today, feel free to use any version that you find useful and trust.

As far as what version is the only divinely inspired version, I am OTHO/NTGO (Old Testament Hebrew Only / New Testament Greek Only).

NKJV, I like the KJV for poetic rhythm. The 1973 version of the NIV is good for verse memory.

In reality it probably doesn't exist. It stands for ESV Only. The ESV is a solid recent translation that's growing in popularity.

ESVO is a satire of KJVO. People who aren't KJVO use the term to poke fun at the fallacies of KJV Onlyism by using the same logic to identify their own version of preference as the only acceptable translation.

 

I was wondering if that was what we were doing here. I am now shutting this thread down as it seeks to make fun of people who hold the KJVO belief.
