A friend of mine, visiting from Mexico City, remarked about how many news stories on the local networks featured stories of Mexicans who were arrested for drugs, murder, molestation and rape. He asked if I noticed, and if I thought it was an unusual amount of coverage (he spent nearly a month here in the Los Angeles area, visiting family and friends), and I replied that it was a common occurrence; and I never really paid that much attention! I guess it would be more profound for a Mexican national, watching American television while here visiting.
So I asked him why he asked me, and he replied that he seldom, if ever, saw Americans/gringos being questioned, arrested, or involved in breaking news or news stories on the local networks where he lives. Then he said something interesting, as he told me that maybe this anti-immigrant Trump was unto something.
I had to chuckle with that observation, but at the same time it got me to think; maybe there are not that many Americans/gringos living in Mexico and committing news worthy crimes; or their news coverage isn't as interested in reporting foreigners committing crime; or, Mexico is not as much a melting pot as here in America; or better yet, could it be that Trump is right?
What do you think about this observation by my Mexican friend?
